Paint ideas for an oasis of calm -pix attached

I'm decluttering this room at the moment and at first I was excited but now I'm feeling overwhelmed.
I have no eye for colour or the right furniture/curtains and would love if any of you creative people can help.
I plan on painting the fire surround and sanding the floors and painting the doors - trying to get rid of the orange pine.
Now my DDs are of to uni , I'd like to create a lovely calm room.

That's quite the pine fest! There's a primer you can buy that I'm currently using to paint a cupboard called Zinsser BIN Shellac Primer that you can use on the doors and wood work. I would also paint the floors.

How about sheer linen curtains, charcoal sofas, lime wash floors, large jute rug, brass or brush nickel fixings/lamps. You can add colour with cushions/throw/pictures etc

Walls - Oyster Bay
Skirting/Fireplace/Ceiling - Sea Salt

Both by Sherwin Williams, you can have them mixed up.

The floor boards will go orange over time again once you've sanded them. I'm not a fan of painted floors and would carpet. Use Zinsser primer on the skirtings, door and architrave and fire surround then paint with a satinwood paint. It will make the world of difference.

Looks like you need some storage in that room unless you plan on moving the clutter elsewhere.

Thanks-12345BM I'll look up those paint colours-it is a massive fireplace- was in the house- had thought of ripping it out .

Wow - yes, the instruments will be moving elsewhere.
Thanks- it's a good start and I needed that.

I had pine floorboards for 15 years. Buy a floor varnish/stain like ash or white oak and they will not go orange again after staining. I choose ash the 2nd time I sanded after a reno and loved those floors. Light and airy, no orange in sight.

Paint the door and fire surround and the room will immediately look better.

Light curtains and a mirror above the fire place.

Are you changing the sofa, if not cushions to compliment the curtains and rug will work.

The blue walls are a nice shade, do you want to change them or work with them?

Lots of nice light fittings online if you want to update that.

Dulux - Egyptian cotton

@Gaelforce then take the fireplace out, especially if it's disproportionate to the room. Maybe a smaller, slimline modern one?

I like the pine Blush

I think that looks like such a cosy warm room and it’s because of the pine. Painting it will bring it up to date but I think will make it “colder” and less cosy.

Thanks for all those suggestions. It's stopping me from throwing magnolia paint on it just to have it done.
@12345 - the fireplace is too big but budget dictates that it will have to be painted.
@flirty the sofa & rug going & changing colour of walls.
@chandlers honestly, it"s hideous - it brings me out in a rash.
Got rid of lots more stuff today and it's starting to look like a blank canvas. I'm going to give the walls a white undercoat and prep the beast of a fireplace for painting.
I go from a lichen/light sage colour for walls to blue/gray and then I think, just white.
I've read other mumsnet threads & Egyptian Cotton, Timeless & F&B ammonite, light blue. Don't think I could stretch to F&B but the colours are soothing.

Bancha by farrow and ball is a lovely earthy calm colour, could maybe do a feature wall on the one with the fireplace.
