Wood painting nightmare

I understand that there is a crisis at the moment, so this doesn't compare. However, I'm having a wood painting nightmare and don't know what to do.

The paint I have is Johnstones Silk wood paint, once. It's find on the skirting boards but really bloody awful on the shutters/door. There is previous gloss paint on there and I sanded it down but it's very patchy.

Do I need a primer do you think? Don't know what to do. Also, the previous paint has drips on it, do I sand those off? I actually looked up how to remove paint but it seems really time consuming but may have to do that.

Any ideas much appreciated.

That looks great. Thanks for posting. Can't believe you took the doors off. Was that hard?

No, we left the hinges on the frame and just unscrewed the doors. It means you can paint the doors flat so you don't get drips, you can paint all the edges and the frame easily and there's no trying to prop the doors open to dry, etc. It also meant there was more space when I was stripping the wallpaper, then repairing the plaster and sanding. I took the door furniture off too. The door knob on the large doors below those in the photo was rusty and I've cleaned it up using fine wet and dry paper, metal polish and then a bit of wax polish to try to stop it from tarnishing.

For your wardrobe you can use satinwood paint and even have it colour matched instead of buying it off the shelf. Rustoleum do a furniture paint in satin finish which I've used on a fire surround and shelves. It seems to be very hard-wearing.

I'm going to use the satinwood that I've been using for the other wooden surfaces. I wasn't sure if I needed special paint as there seems to be special cupboard/furniture paint. However, other people have been using wood paint so I'll just use that. Hoping I don't run out! Getting sick of reordering stuff.

Wardrobe looks absolutely awful! Painting wardrobes is not my forte. Not sure what's gone wrong, gave it two coats of primer and the second coat of satin paint is drying. I think I'm going to have to dump it. Absolute nightmare.

Oh dear - what is the wardrobe made of and why does it look awful? Can you post a photo and we can try to sort this out for you.

The wardrobe is pine. It was only lightly varnished. It's me, I'm not good with delicate work that a piece of furniture needs although I used a mini roller and painted the satinwood on with thin, even layers and did the corners with a paint brush. I've just made a mess of it. I think I'd be embarrassed to have it in my bedroom.

It now looks 'shaker' in style as well...

I was going to buy a new wardrobe anyway but could have donated this one so that's why it's a shame. No one would want it now.

I think to rectify it would need me to sand it down, reapply primer and perhaps use another type of paint. Something thicker and more forgiving perhaps. I'll wait until the paint dries and post a picture.
