How to choose a nice white paint.

Both my daughters want to paint at least three walls of their bedroom white.

I'm not much of an expert about paint but I do know there is white and there is white and then there is white. So many whites!

Ideally I just liked to buy one tin for both rooms. Are there any rules or guidelines or for choosing this kind of paint?

It's for bedrooms so great if it's clean and light but not too intense or bright if that makes sense?

Depending on what colour you paint the other wall you’ll either need one with blue (Cool) ie pure brilliant white, or without blue (Warm) something like dulux jabot (which I always use), or dulux timeless (which is very similar).

I second Dulux Timeless.
We have it in our bedroom, with one Dusted Fondant wall, and aubergine bedding etc;
also have it in our lounge, with two small walls of deep red (Costa coffee red).
Timeless seems to work everywhere. It's warm, with no hint of yellow.

I also have much of my house painted in Timeless, it's really nice - just a nice creamy white without an undertone of anything in particular that I can see. Would recommend!

Timeless sounds great! Pity you can't get paint home delivered.

Be careful with Timeless, I used it after it was recommended on here and found it to be very yellow and creamy and painted over it with Dulux White Cotton which is much more neutral in my opinion.

But I’m sat here in a grump as the Dulux pure brilliant white I used to decorate two rooms last week IMO isn’t brilliant white at all.

Maybe you should use that! To my eye it is a warm, soft white and I wanted a more clinical white!

Have a look on the Farrow & Ball website. They group their whites into different categories so you can see whether they are cream/yellow/grey/green/pinky based, and the effect they create. They also have helpful advice on the aspect of the room in the section ‘How light affects colour’. You don’t have to use their paint - obviously it’s £££ - but because they have a small range of colours it will help you get your head round the different whites that are out there. Might be worth getting a colour card.

I used Wimborne White in my old flat - it’s a lovely soft white which is neither warm nor cool and goes with everything.

Yes you can! Lead times are long at the moment due to demand but you can certainly order from Dulux, F&B and Little Greene directly.

I love jasmine white. It does ha Eva yellow tint, but in a lovely warm and ultra pale form.

I second jasmine white. My last house was quite dark in the hall, landing and stairs, JW lifted it beautifully and made it look light and airy.
I also had F&B Pointing in my dining room, which was a lovely off-white

I have jjasmine white in a south facing sunny room, and it's fabulous. I think it looks good everywhere.

OP, have you chosen a colour yet and/or managed to get hold of any paint?

Interested in this thread as I was just coming on to ask a similar question. F&B All White looks nice - a ‘pure’ white without any undertones but not a brilliant white as I think that can sometimes look a bit too bright. I’m looking to do woodwork and ceilings in it. Any recommendations for something a bit less expensive?!
