Painting over gloss doors with satin paint?

Can I? Doors downstairs are gone yellow looking after two years but I don't like the gloss look! So is it possible to paint over them with satin paint?
Would it worth if I sanded doors down and used a primer or a undercoat first?

Yes of course, sand well, not sure about primer I've never used it.

I don't bother with sanding these days unless there's something that obviously needs smoothing down - just use a good primer like Zinsser over the gloss then use your satinwood paint as a topcoat. I've done this many times - over varnish and over paint effects, etc. Yes, the primer isn't cheap, but as you're changing finishes you'll get a better result using it.

Use a brush for any details and a small gloss roller for the rest for the best finish with no brush marks.

Yep, I've just done it and we have shitty new build cheap doors. I used Dulux Quick Dry Satinwood. I just gave them a clean with sugarsoap and a very gentle sand - literally a minute with a fine sanding block, quick wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust, let it dry and then paint away. some took 2 coats no primer or undercoat. touch dry in an hour , re-coatable in 6 I think.

I did mine with a brush but the doors have a "grain" and panels so not a large smooth area if that makes sense? The sand is literally give to give the paint a key. i forgot to do it on one of the doors and to be honest you cant really tell any difference.

I'm sure they will look fab, really pleased with the ones I've done so far. Still got loads to go. If you use the same paint as I did, it's water based and I've just popped the brush into a sandwich bag every evening and wrapped it tight and then just used it again the next day. I've not needed to wash the brush in-between and I've been using it for a couple of weeks and just doing a coat on a door or two every evening. We have a lot of doors/woodwork and just working my way round the house :)

@WaxOnFeckOff thanks you've given me confidence to go ahead and do it! I thought I was stuck with gloss! Any tipsy welcome 😄

@WaxOnFeckOff do love that you put the brush in a sandwich bag without washing it and it's good to go! I'll be doing that I hate washing brushes 😆

We have 22 internal glossed doors plus the insides of 2 external ones to do, plus skirtings and door surrounds, windowsills, banister/balustrades etc. It's a bit of a marathon which is why we are doing them bit by bit. Doing a bit of decorating as we go so each room gets the full treatment but i'm doing extra doors - the sides facing into the hall and landing in-between as I go along.

DH has been fitting new blinds up and painting the windowsills at that point too. Since the paint and brush are ready to go, it's easy just to do a quick coat when we have half an hour free.

@WaxOnFeckOff crikey and I thought I had a lot to do! Definitely easier to do bit by bit, I tend to keep going and tire myself out plus bore myself senseless too! but got to be done !
