Half wall painted- how quickly will it date?

I've seen lots of half wall designs on Pinterest and Instagram recently. We've just bought our flat and we have to decorate our sons room. He's only 2 so won't have much of an opinion on what it looks like! I definitely don't want to do anything too childish like dinosaur wallpaper or whatever.

I was thinking of doing a green half wall but wasn't sure if this trend will date very quickly? It's a small and narrow room (again, pic attached) so I was worried that it might make the room look even more narrow?

Would love opinions!

Oh I like it. I think it'll be fine until you want to redecorate anyway. He would possibly want something different when he's 9/10 anyway I think it would last till then. I think it will age nicely along with him. Might even do it in my ds's room when we do his :)

If it dates or you get fed up it will be very easy to redecorate a small room. Go for the style you like now.

Painting over is so easy I wouldn't worry about it.

If you like it now then you are unlikely to go off it in 12 months.

I would masking tape some wrapping paper or something of a similar darkness to the paint onto to the lower wall to get a feel for the "narrowing" effect before you commit.

Go for it! It’ll be easy to redecorate

Go for it! You can easily paint over it if you get fed up with it.

Don't paint it at half wall height though, it won't look right. If you look at the picture you posted, the blue is less than halfway height. I would either go with traditional dado rail height or maybe one third height (thirds are always more aesthetically pleasing).

I don’t understand this “will it date” question.

I’ve seen it loads recently

Just get what you want and change it when you get fed up of it. Why does it matter what anyone else has

Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone!! Looks like I will be going ahead with it once DP has shrugged and said 'Yeh looks nice'

And you're right @goingoverground ill probably do a third height as the ceilings are very very tall (almost 3 meters) so think half height would look odd.

When we moved in my ds' room was small and has high Ceilings. It was painted a pale yellow with a broad band of darker yellow around d the middle (probably not far off 1/3rds) it was really effective, somehow broadened the room.
Unfortunately I've no pics as it has now been knocked through to be our dressing room!

In that room I would do it just on the bedhead wall and either one third height or (more likely) up to the boxed bit
