Hall, stairs and landing wallpaper help

We're finally getting the hall, stairs and landing redecorated a couple of years after moving in. It is truly hideous at the moment and too outing to post a photo of! But we can't find the right wallpaper.

Arts and crafts house, lots of original dark oak woodwork and very good quality dark red carpet, which we are keeping. It's a beautiful space with a large north facing window.

We need over 20 rolls of wallpaper and it could look stunning with the right paper. A plain, neutral painted colour wouldn't do it justice. Any ideas? I've had samples of light coloured, patterned neutral wallpapers and they are too insipid - would be a waste of money. I love iliv Heathland in linen (the pattern shows up enough), but DP isn't keen - his taste is more conservative/traditional.

Help!

I absolutely love these, and think as it's made to order, each design can come in any colour. Probably expensive though 😕

Painted MDF wouldn't look right against all the original woodwork though. I'm not going to post photos but if you were to see the space you'd see what I mean. There have been some lovely ideas - thank you. There is so much choice these days that half the battle is narrowing things down.

I inherited a house with William Morris everywhere.
I had windrush on hall/stairs and landing-3 floors. Here www.wallpaperdirect.com/products/morris/windrush/1242

It's not what I would choose and I couldn't replace it all right now, and the carpet is lush and matches(but not what I'd choose) so I picked out the pink in the pattern and painted just the hall in the pink. It's lightened it all. I do have wood on hall floor though.

This is nice £53?

I do like the Morris wallpapers, but DP doesn't as they are too busy for him.

The owls linked above are lovely!

wowfudge · 21/01/2020 21:05

There's another colour way of the owls in brown and copper but it appears to be sold out everywhere. The sample with the green leaves arrived today. I'm not keen on the lime green. I'll compromise if DP likes it. I've ordered samples of Sanderson Owlswick in the different colourways too. It is stupidly expensive at around £60 a roll, but wider than standard wallpaper.

@wowfudge there are 12 rolls of the copper colourway available here if you can paint one wall?
Or it comes in teal
Or there is this similar one in grey but I can't find it in the UK

wowfudge · 21/01/2020 21:53

Thank you. We need 22 rolls - it wouldn't be one wall! I found that website earlier. I'm not keen on the teal and don't forget it's going with dark red carpet.

Interesting - that grey owl paper is by the same company. The pattern code gives it away.

@wowfudge there's this one but I think the repeat would annoy me too much!
And yes, sorry, I'd forgotten about the carpet when I suggested the teal Shock

Roselilly36 · 22/01/2020 07:56

If you are wanting a bold patterned wall paper, why not just have it on one wall and the other side painted. The pattern may be too much otherwise. Have you got a decorator in mind to hang the paper for you, if so it might we worth asking their advice, on the best type of wallpaper to choose, some are better than others.

funmummy48 · 22/01/2020 08:00

Have you looked at MissPrint wallpaper? They have some lovely prints in a variety of colours. We have their "little trees" wallpaper and it's stunning.

wowfudge · 22/01/2020 08:08

Thanks sorry - I'd seen that as Dunelm sell it. It's self-adhesive and sold as 'temporary wallpaper' or for upcycling furniture.

The space is big enough to take a bold pattern and there is enough other stuff to break things up. It's not a corridor although it's called the hall.

I love the Sanderson Owlswick - it has a retro feel to it that would really work, but it's pricey.

The samples have arrived. Obviously my favourite is the most expensive Shock. Trying to convince myself that because it's wider we'll need less and it won't be that expensive...!
