With glitter in it as well! Feature wall in DDs bedroom that needs to go and we want something much lighter. Is it just a case of painting it with multiple coats of white as a base before putting another colour on?

Do I need to lightly sand the glitter off??

If you can feel the glitter then it will need to be sanded down.

You can get particularly opaque paint for blocking out previous colours. Can't remember what it's called, but it is more expensive than standard emulsion. We used it to base coat the cornices when we bought our house, so that we could paint them white. (Orange is one room, navy in another, brilliant turquoise in the third room. I kid you not.) Dh did start off by using multiple coats of standard white emulsion in one room, but gave up after the third coat.

Alternatively, you could paper over with a good grade of lining paper and then paint over that. This would also help to smooth down the glitter.

Brilliant thanks, I'll google the opaque paint!
