Fitting your own carpet......

We are moving dds into their own rooms starting with Dd2 moving into the 'box' room. It's pretty much a square, certainly no odd shapes. We are lifting my much beloved green stripey carpet (which was an off cut in the first place) and replacing it with a plain grey carpet with a fairly low pile. Leaving underlay as is.

It should be fairly simple to do no? We can use the old carpet as a template, dh and dm are pretty handy and I can make the tea! Am I being too simplistic?

Just pay a carpet fitter. It will be a very small cost. Fitting carpets is one of those things that is very hard to do well as a DIY job. Someone who does it all day every day will do a fantastic job and it'll maybe be £30.

You’ll need a carpet kicker but it’s a simple enough job. Cut as it goes down so you don’t short yourself.

I second getting a carpet fitter to do the job; by the time you've hired a knee kicker and cleared somewhere big enough to lay the carpet out to use the template, a professional will be putting his stuff back in his/her van.

I took your advice and got a fitter. Carpet was a remnant with and extra 10% off due to sale so even with the fitter came in less than budget

That's a win then!
