Help me design my teeny weeny bathroom!

I have a very very small main bathroom which is in urgent need of ripping out. It currently has an electric shower that dribbles over a bath. Pic shows the current layout and dimensions (yes the sink really does overhang the bath and the radiator is behind the door so currently the door doesn't fully open!)

We plan to replace the bath with a shower cubicle. I don't know what size or shape but it would need to have a sliding door.

The dilemma then is where to position the toilet and sink. The shower can only go in the bottom right corner due to the door and window. If we keep them where they are then I don't think there will be enough room to access the top right corner so it will an odd wasted space. I'd also like to reposition the radiator. Any ideas?

Can you make a wet room so you don't need the shower basin?

EskSmith · 14/12/2019 12:34

Square shower cubicle but with curved entrance.

Like this one www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/newark-quadrant-shower-enclosure-various-sizes?campaign=googlebase&pagetype=shopping&PS2PVV1=5186&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiArdLvBRCrARIsAGhB_sz7fLKgIF989m7m7baObg4snjB_MK0hT-XXpheJ7g2ov1MtCE2VIz4aAjX-EALw_wcB
Small sink with storage above in area above shower. We're currently planning a bathroom and have an area where the bath currently fits all the way across like yours. The curved shower makes access easier.

Partimers · 14/12/2019 12:37

Well it’s probably easier/cheaper to leave the toilet to be honest op. Leave the toilet, move the sink over, put in a towel rail if possible and shower in the corner. See my crappy editing 🤣

Are the square/curved cubicles roomy enough? The biggest we could get would be 800mm one but the shower would almost be at the door frame. Would the longer curved ones work? Is there a recommended space to leave between fittings?

I don't think making it a wet room would work as it is the only bathroom/toilet in the house.

I have a small bathroom with a 750mm shower cubicle like the one shown by the PP. I am overweight and it is cramped but usable. I also have a bigger ensuite one that I mostly use).

800mm is perfectly usable, i could have just squeezed a 800mm one in and wish I had now.

bookgirl1982 · 14/12/2019 13:26

I'd go for a rectangular with a sliding door or a 'corner cut off' one.

We have a Matki Quintesse in that style which is 1200 x 900 and it is really roomy. I think they do an 800 version.

Thestrangestthing · 14/12/2019 13:38

We have almost exactly the same bathroom as you, except out door goes in the other way. Our plan will be exactly what Partimers had done. Think it's the best way really. Our window is above the sink.

silverfridge21 · 14/12/2019 14:32

What app did you use for your diagram please?

Happygirl79 · 14/12/2019 14:36

My bathroom is tiny
I had the bath removed and 1.1/2 fully tiled shower installed
The wc is wall hung as is the sink and cabinet beneath
This makes the bathroom look so much bigger
Good luck

AnotherEmma · 14/12/2019 14:36

It seems obvious to me. Placement of window means that shower has to be in bottom right corner. Toilet needs to stay on external wall because of waste pipe, so you should probably leave it where it is. Keep sink there too or move it to top right hand corner. Underfloor heating and heated towel rail next to sink. Done!

AnotherEmma · 14/12/2019 14:39

You could put the sink against the wall on the right hand side, which would leave space and access for a heated towel rail under the window.

Beetie1 · 14/12/2019 17:07

@silverfridge21 it's called magicplan (on iPhone). I got the app to make to scale plans of the house when we bought. It helped a lot with buying new furniture.

@AnotherEmma I am temped to put the sink further to the right to then be able to have a mirror/mirrored cabinet above. Currently my OH chooses to trim his beard in the larger wall mirror which is on the left hand wall rather than the small mirror on the window sill... this results in beard sprinkles on the floor Hmm.

Our bathroom is similar layout. Shower - bottom right. Move toilet along to the right on window wall and sink on radiator wall. Towel radiator on wall next to toilet by shower.

Soontobe60 · 14/12/2019 17:31

Our bathroom is probably similar in size but more L shaped as its over the stairs. We have a 900 x 1000 quadrant shower which is roomy enough for my 6'2 " DH with long arms 🤣
Our toilet is on an internal wall but with a side waste pipe so still feeds through the external wall.
Can your door open out into the hallway, or can you have a sliding door? Then your sink could go opposite thenshower?
You can get very think rads now so coundnstill go near the door, or have underfloor heating. My DD has, and she leaves the towels on the floor to dry 🤷🏼‍♀️
We got ours from an independent plumber who helped us find the right sized items for the floor space.

I'd shop around for the tight sanitary wear. I few mm and different designs make an enormous difference on how well things fit together in a space .
I'd put in the green heated towel rail
The blue sink with mist free illuminated mirror above
The red shower . The shower may need raiding on a small platform to allow drainage depending on your joist direction. Consider a open ended shower with a larger rose over head shower and a separate hand held shower with wall mount (shower in a hurry without washing your hair!). Undergloor heating is a nice option too.

VallarMorghulis · 14/12/2019 17:38

I have the exact same layout OP and had it done 2 years ago, I love it. I have an off the floor toilet and sink, and a low profile shower tray that takes the whole length of the wall, with a glass screen.

Cathpot · 14/12/2019 17:42

Is there an option to make the door a sliding one external to the room so you gain that space back?

VallarMorghulis · 14/12/2019 18:03

I had to really shop around to find fittings in the exact dimensions. The sink is from ikea and the shower tray was from shower trays UK (I think!)

Beetie1 · 14/12/2019 18:29

Ok so current thinking - This plan shows an 800mmx900mm quadrant shower with a wide sink/vanity cabinet tucked behind it. This would give a lot of storage which would be good as I currently have none. I could then have a wall hung toilet to keep the floor free on the other side.

That looks good. Radiator might interfere with cupboard below sink so you could put in a wall hung towel radiator above the toilet, like this one: bit.ly/34i1ta1
Shower: could also have an 800x800 shower with a bifold door if you didn't want quadrant.

victoriaplum.com/product/mode-tate-complete-bathroom-suite-with-right-hand-bath-shower-and-taps?options=size|1500_x_850_bath

Bath on Wall where window is (make the window opaque or put waterproof blind on). Change door hinges so opens out. Put toilet to the right of the door. I'd put the sink in the wall left of the door, the standard ones are too big, I went for wall hung bowl on a shelf. My bathroom is 5ft x 5ft 5inches and this worked great. I'm not home or I'd post pictures. Also, might be worth buying hubby and electric razor, then he won't need bathroom sink and mirror. :)

youcanonlydraftthefuture · 14/12/2019 18:53

Soontone Where are your bathroom floor tiles from? They're gorgeous!

Beetie1 · 14/12/2019 19:22

@Bl3ached Hmm I hadn't thought about the radiator and unit doors... the app won't let me reduce the depth of the radiator so it shows as a lot deeper than it would be. I'll have to keep this in mind.

I think it'll be useful to go to a showroom and pretend shower in a few different sized cubicles to make sure we are happy.

Even after deciding a layout plan I have to make decisions on style and tiles... I think being so small I want to have the entire room - walls and floors - tiled.
