F&B Slipper satin - what is Dulux equivalent?

angea09 · 05/12/2019 15:21

My builder doesn’t like using Farrow and ball and not keen on using Johnstones colour matched paint either. Says Dulux trade gives best coverage
Can anyone save me the work and tell me what colour I can get which would be Slipper satin equivalent please?

Many paint colours / makes are BSI matches and will have a code (6 - 10 digits maybe) on the tin. If you get the F and B code and take it to colour mixers in B and Q or anywhere similar, they will match it exactly. Done it plenty of times.

F&B Slipper satin - what is Dulux equivalent?
3luckystars · 05/12/2019 15:26

The paint shop will do this for you.

(But it's not the same Grin)

msmith501 · 05/12/2019 15:27

If you get the exact code from F and B it will be identical to within one in 64 million colours. Close enough I reckon.

Thanks all - was just hoping you’d name a colour 🙈 #lazy

e-paint says 'Cornish Clay' is the closest actual Dulux Trade colour.

Thanks - bought a sample of Cornish clay. It was a bit greener than slipper satin unfortunately. The search continues!

Just ask them to copy it in whatever brand your decorator prefers

eurochick · 07/12/2019 08:36

You're the customer - use the paint you like. If your decorator refuses to use F and B then find another decorator!

angea09 · 14/12/2019 18:05

@Bluesheep8 apparently Dulux don’t do colour matches

@eurochick - thanks. That’s what I’ve done. It seems very few decorators like F&B but I’ve found one who will colour match it in Johnstone’s paint 👍

Crown decorating centres do. Most decorators I know are as happy to use Crown trade paint as Dulux, so I would see if you have a Crown decorating centre near you.

M0reGinPlease · 14/12/2019 18:21

You might get virtually the same colour but it won't have the same depth or finish as F&B.

Kaz2200 · 14/12/2019 18:26

Cameo silk 1

I have never compared the two side by side, so I wouldn't know, but it is rather telling that professional decorators don't like using it.

They don't like using it because they don't get trade prices.

angea09 · 15/12/2019 06:46

@M0reGinPlease but I was buying the paint so doesn’t matter what the price is then surely?!

So, it does sound that he doesn't like using F & B paint. The staff at our local Crown decorating centre are pretty dismissive of F & B paint, and say that the quality of it isn't any better than their trade paint.

Ladybird37 · 15/12/2019 07:27

I went into my local dulux centre with the F&B paint I liked painted on to white card. The lady asked me what it was and they had a folder with the exact matches for f&b, which they mixed up for me. Looks great on the wall comparing with the colour chart

Carbis · 15/12/2019 07:36

Our builder was the same but after colour matching and lots of attempts at dulux that just didn’t look right, he was persuaded to go with F&B and put an extra coat on. I absolutely love the result and he was converted. Persevere to get what you want, it’s your home!

nodogz · 15/12/2019 07:59

My last f&b (peignoir) took FIVE coats. It looks nice but five coats is too many!

I've just had a room done in Dulux trade (a dark Matt colour) and it is brilliant. I'm utterly converted to dulux trade. You get massive samples, the paint goes on well and is highly pigmented, you pay your decorators trade price and get an invoice which comes off your bill. I even got to name my own colour at the shop!

M0reGinPlease · 15/12/2019 09:02

I've always used F&B and with properly prepped walls never had to use more than two coats. Light colours only though. Is it the dark colours that are more tricky to get on right?

MustardScreams · 15/12/2019 09:05

I’ve never had an issue with F&B. All of downstairs is done in it. You do need to prep the walls properly though, maybe why decorators like to use something you can slap on!

paradyning · 26/12/2019 20:42

Dulux heritage have similar colours to F&B but are easier to work with. Not quite the same depth of colour but not too bad.

Helenabelle · 06/04/2024 21:43

It’s because they don’t get their trade discounts. And they have to work harder as sometimes it takes more coats. They like their trade paints
