Can you tell me rough cost of Johnstone’s paint?

There is an offer on at Homebase for Farrow and Ball. I want to buy some matt emulsion for our kitchen, and was planning to get Johnstone’s to mix up the colour I want, but with the F and B offer I am debating buying actual F and B paint!

I can’t ring Johnstone’s now, as they are shut, and could do with making the decision tonight. Has anyone recently had paint mixed by Johnstone’s, and can you tell me what they charged please (for what size of tin)?

Thanks in advance.

We just paid £46 for 5L of Johnstone’s acrylic durable Matt in farrow and ball shade. From memory 2.5L was only about £10 cheaper, but I think F&B paint is fairly shoddy

We used Johnstones but I've looked back at the decorators invoices and it's not itemise. Sorry pointless response but I tried!

Thanks both. That is very useful Fox, thanks. What is it you don't like about F&B? I've never used the real deal before, but heard it's all about the pigments and how the light catches it?

It’s just horrible to work with, and most decorators will want you to have the paint mixed into another formula. The Johnstone’s is genuine F&B colour, so pigment rich. Johnstone’s pay F&B royalties so it’s genuine as opposed to having it mixed into e.g. dulux paint. F&B paint tends to mark easily too, but I’m hoping by going for the acrylic matt (which is supposed to be wipeable) we will do a little better

I bought mine from om B&M so no special colour but paid £20 for 5L. I didn't find it awful to work with either.

I presume you mean Johnstone's rather than F nd B, Mouse?

Based on all the replies, I'll stick with Johnstone's I think. Didn't realise it was close enough to F and B to have to pay royalties.

Thanks all.

It’s not ‘close enough’ it’s the exact shade as per F&B’s colour specification. This is different to other paints where they will use their colour matching technology to get a very close approximation

littlecabbage · 13/11/2019 13:50

I suppose I meant the exact formula rather than colour, so that it will have the same light changing properties, and "chalkiness" etc.

But good to know that the colour is exactly the same. That is good enough for me I reckon.

Thanks @QuestionableMouse - another vote for Johnstone's!

Just did this - Johnson's was half the cost of F & B.
So I need two large tins and it was £40 but F and B was £80.
I actually got it for a bit less as I was with my builder and he has trade discount
