And more homely it's abit silver and white at the moment which I love but not very homely for the winter months. I need to finish my glitter wall and finish painting the doors

I think the room is too symmetric and there is definitely way too much grey.
Introduce some irregularities. Buy pillows that are all different colours and patterns and place them into the corners of the sofas, maybe a colourful blanket folded on the other side. Place some big books on the table and sideboard to give the room some soul. If you can afford it replace one of the sofas with a different one, in an interesting colour.
Not a fan of the grey wall.

I'd go for fluffy cream throws/cushions and some burnt orange accent cushions as well. That will cosy it up for you.

An interior designer friend told me that a expensive house is a house that doesn’t match to much. So there is a bit of variety and personality in there.

I feel like the room has been furnished with lots of care and attention but it lacks for a personal touch and some colour.

I also think some bigger lampshades in complimenting light colours would be nice. Soft pink velvet on one then a even paler pink on the other.
Then go for a patterned cushion, a textured one and a couple of plain coloured ones on the sofas but don’t match your sofas!

I'm not sure I'd go rushing to introduce bold colours like orange, navy etc with such a cool and sparkly grey/silver.

My big takeaways without changing/spending a crazy amount are to change the silver wall to something much lighter and matt. Blush/dusky pink is very in at the moment and pairs well with grey/ silver. I'd choose quite a pale shade and make sure it's not too 'girly' pink Wink

It would bring it right up to date and warm things up a bit - also toning well with your darker grey woodwork and orange door.
At the moment the silver wall is far too similar to your carpet and almost looks like an extension of the carpet (from a distance!).

My next thought is to change the sofa layout and TV. Is there any chance of mounting the TV where the mirror is and having your mirror over the mantle? Try hanging the mirror vertically over the fireplace which draws the eye upwards/ gives the feeling of higher ceilings. You might require a bigger mirror for this or plainer framed one.
I'm picturing the sofa facing the mirror wall- is there a window where you're positioned taking the photo? And the armchair on the wall where the display unit is.

I like the idea of houseplants (also very in at the moment!). I admit I've cheated in my living room and used plastic plants Blush
I'm a decent gardener but I'm crap at remembering to water things indoors.

B&M have quite a nice selection of homewares right now if you can find a well stocked one. I'm wondering if you can mix rose gold/copper with grey and blush pink. They have a lot of blush and copper accessories. I think it would work if the silver-sparkle is toned down a bit.

Sainsburys homewares are also really nice albeit a bit more expensive. I haven't checked this season's offerings but they're usually very on trend and look more expensive!

I've looked again at the photos and can see the window and the seating sorry!

I'd definitely see if you can rearrange the big sofa and the smaller sofa although space may not allow. Are there two doors into the room? Do you use both? Could you lock the less-used door if it gives you more 'wall' to play with for sofa/ sideboard reconfiguration?

I'm thinking one sofa in the window alcove (set forward a little) and one below where the mirror is currently on the wall opposite the window. Then have the mirror over the fireplace and the TV on the wall opposite the fireplace.

Another option - bring the TV down onto a long (white?) stand in the corner where the clock is. IKEA are good for units wide enough to accommodate big tvs. I'm thinking the Besta range maybe? Keep your big sofa where it is and put the 2-seater one in the window (set forward a bit). The TV is such a focal point at the moment and a big black void on the wall when it's not switched on. Sticking it in the corner -angled towards the room - may improve the layout.

You could even have the fire on a different wall if it's literally wall mounted and plugged in. Potentially with a slim shelf above to create the illusion of a mantlepiece with a large framed mirror or art above.

Just a few ideas without having to change/re-do too much.

I'd also agree with replacing the lampshades with a dusky pink to lighten things up Smile

Google images/ Pinterest has lots of images if you type in 'blush pink grey living room' or 'blush pink grey rose gold living room'. Some of them use paler greys but dark grey works fine as a contrast (i.e. your carpet and woodwork). Once you've introduced blush pink and rose gold/copper it gives you scope to bring in pale taupe and natural wood without jarring with the grey already in the room.

B&M definitely has a ton of blush pink and rose gold/copper right now, I was there yesterday! Some nice candle holders and wall decor for less than £10.

I'd try and steer away from adding any more crushed velvet as there's enough in the room with the sofas. Plain velvet/velour accessories are okay as they're more matt Smile

If you do end up buying new accessories I'd recommend taking the existing ones out and reintroducing gradually to see what works together. It's a bit overwhelming trying to get everything to work together otherwise.

My bedroom is currently Dulux denim drift, pale laminate floor with blush pink, grey and copper accents. White and oak furniture and a couple of striking houseplants - I love it!

I really like @GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat's suggestions on layout and redecoration. But I still think adding colour shows personality and confidence.

morriseysquif · 04/11/2019 08:09

Even the flowers look grey!

Grey is the colour of stone, which is cold!

Agree you need colour, throws, cushions, candles and lamps.

Bluntness100 · 04/11/2019 08:20

I also wouldn't rush at things like navy and orange, purple, red and bright pink, these are all very harsh colours often.

The silver is cold, lots of greys are warm, but the ones you've picked are cold ones.

I think to make it warmer you need to soften it, not go for more harsh colours. As said things like green plants, big cushions and throws in neutral warm colours will help the stark ness. Cushions with a warm cream base, but with a soft coloured beautiful pattern on, big throws over the sofa arms to match, new lamp shades, big plants in the corners, and on the table, will all make it look lighter and warmer.

Apolloanddaphne · 04/11/2019 08:24

I thought they were black and white photos until I saw the orange glass in the door and thought 'wow'. The colour really popped. That would make a fantastic accent colour.

kjhkj · 04/11/2019 11:16

I agree with everyone else. Too much dark grey. Your picture which shows the pale back wall looks nice. Your photo which shows the glitter wall against the sofas and carpet and woodwork looks like a completely different room. I think you've gone overboard with the dark grey and silver unfortunately. From this angle the room also looks very hard. The key to a well designed room is texture. Assuming you need to keep the carpets and sofa (which are too matchy) I'd be switching out that coffee table, adding a rug (not grey or silver!), repainting the TV wall and adding different colour and texture with cushions.

I have dark grey in my snug which is a dark north facing TV room. But to contrast, the furniture is white and wood tones, the coving and ceiling and all woodwork are white, I have a large pale shag pile rug, the sofas are pale and the accent colours are mustard and green with lots of different textures in the cushions and lots of plants to add more green.

theoriginaltms · 04/11/2019 11:21

I have definitely had an eye opener here and agree the colours are too cold. I've decided to add blush pink into the room so off to get some cushions and also purchased a rug from amazon to break up the carpet. The silver wall is going and being papered in a blush pink, white and small silver geo print wall paper, adding two large prints either side of tv.

Can't re position the tv as there are only 2 plug sockets in the living room which are both on the same wall otherwise I would of had it on the opposite wall. There are 2 doors in the living room which both have to be used, one from front door in and the other is into the kitchen.

Sorry I droned on a bit Blush Grin
I'm in the middle of updating my small home and thought I'd share some ideas that have helped me. Your list sounds great OP.

It's much better - not to mention less expensive and more environmentally friendly - if you can find a way of making existing furnishings work for a while longer. Big things such as carpet and sofas for example!

I've made a couple of semi-expensive decor mistakes. Nothing too ££ but annoying nonetheless. I had the idea to list them on local selling groups and Facebook marketplace with excellent results.
It reduced my guilt, the buyers were super happy with their bargain and it meant I had some spends to put towards my new furniture Star

Re. electrical points I put off doing them for so long. In actual fact it wasn't very expensive to have a couple of extra points put in. I think it helps if there's already a light switch or socket nearby for example through the wall in the next room. Less chasing in to do.
If you're renting maybe your LL would be on board.

Finally, Matalan have 30% off selected homewares online and in-store until tomorrow. I'm planning a quick trip Grin
