Box Room into Kids Bedroom.

My partner of 3 years is moving in with me, and he has shared custody of his 6 year old daughter part of the week - so she is moving in too.

I only have a box room which will have to do until we can buy or rent a bigger place.

The room is currently my home office, and measures 7ft x 7ft.

I have tried to google ideas how to configure the room; we don't currently have any furniture which will fit, so will buy a new bed, wardrobe and any other furniture for storage we can fit in, or even get a carpenter to fit something bespoke (although I hope we can afford to move by the time she reaches secondary school age - so she can have a larger room so she can have more privacy for herself and friends).

I don't really like cabin beds which are as tall as bunk beds, makes bedtime stories and changing the sheets much harder!

Anyone got an ideas or photos/links to any good ideas which will maximise the space?

We can keep some or most of her books/games/toys etc in the living room as that's quite large...but I want to make her room special for her so she feels welcome and at home and has her things to make her feel comfortable.

personally i would put a bed like this on one side, which has storage underneath for things that can be folded. then, i would hang something like this on the opposite wall as it has hanging space and a shelf for trinkets etc, or i would place a box at the end of the bed, depending on if she needed the hanging space or not. Let her choose the colour of the walls and maybe a mat to go down on the floor. all the best x

Cabin beds are a pain. Id get a bed with really good underbed draws. A captains bed i think they are called. And id consider hooks for her clothes rather than a wardrobe which would take a lot of space.

I don’t think a wardrobe or chest of drawers would be a good idea. I would give her some space in your wardrobe and buy a bed with drawers as above. You’ll also need some shelves, and maybe could fit a small desk instead unless she has somewhere else to work

Pass we have fairly big downstairs, so she will be able to do homework/crafts in the kitchen at the dining room table.
Is there no way of getting a wardrobe into the space?

DS has a room that is around 8x8.
He has a cabin bed like this except it has a bookcase in place of the cube storage.
He also has a wardrobe.

I think for part time living, I'd go for no wardrobe (how much stuff does she have that has to be hung up?? A couple of dresses, and everything else folded?).

I can still get into his bed with him (now 10) for bedtime stories.
Changing the bottom sheet is not great, but otherwise we are happy. He currently has the bookcase and drawers back to back at the foot of his bed, with a cave underneath to scramble into. Toys are mainly in his brothers bedroom.....
