Would anyone recommend Next sofas? Anyone have the Next Hampshire or Wilson?

Basically that, need a new sofa, not too deep, not too shallow, firm but soft and comfy... Goldilocks sofa if you like...

We have done a bit of shopping around, DFS, Sofology etc. Tried some in next and found them really comfy! Does anyone own a next sofa? Particularly interested in hearing from anyone with the Hampshire or Wilson styles???
Frankly, any other recommendations! Not extortionate! Thanks x

I have got five next sofas. Not sure any of them are those you have mentioned (links/photos would help).

They are good quality. Choose your fabric wisely would be my advice. Two of mine are pure wool tweed, one velvet and two cotton/linen mix. Some of the fabrics look as though they won’t wear too well.

My parents have got them as well now on my recommendation.. I didn’t buy them on cost alone but also on shape and fabric. When shopping the other places I looked were John Lewis, Laura Ashley and Barker and Stonehouse.

I thought the Next offerings were generally better finished than the JL versions and you definitely get more for your money.

They were really good when one I bought developed a wave/bump in the seat fabric after a short time (fixed cushion). They collected it within a week and I received a refund the day after collection.

No. We have two Garda sofas, and they haven't lasted well. The cushions are lumpy and shapeless now, and getting spills and stains out of the covers is a nightmare.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/10/2019 07:41

We have the Farrell sofa and cuddle chair in a mauve tweedy fabric. The back cushions need a fair bit of thumping to get them back in shape, the base cushions tend to creep forward and we already have some bobbling of the material at the front edge of the base cushions.
I probably won't buy from them again, but we are limited on size and the Farrell design seemed to be one of the few that didn't have massively huge armrests.

Can I ask how old and what sort of useage have those with lumpy cushions had?

Mine are three and a half years wool tweed one, two years linen/cotton and six months velvet.

Not heavy use, there are only three of us and DD is a teenager.

I have the Wilson in soft twill I think it is.

I have had nest sofas before. Sofa bed lasted years the other sian get a big saggy but we bought some new foam and all was well.

Main driver for me was armrest size - I wanted the largest sofa I could get with minimal armrest width! I also wanted removable washable covers. It also had to be within a 10cm length as minimal clearance to get it into room. The Wilson fitted that criteria. And a reasonable price.

I have had about 6 months - I do feel one cushion is defiantly softer than the others where I sit on it but probably I just need to rotate them a bit.

I have had a bit of the seam come undone on one of the small cushions that come with it by the zip

Generally though given my relatively limited budget and very specific requirements I am happy with it!

Ours started to look like they had been badly used after only 3 years. Our previous sofas lasted for 23 years. I tried to buy new back cushions from Next but they couldn't do them. I suppose I could unpick them and restuff them.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/10/2019 07:59

I bought mine in March this year. Used daily by 3 of us. However DH does tend to slump on it which doesn't help.
We did also considerbuying another armchair in the same fabric about a month after the original purchase but the fabric has been discontinued.

Thanks all!!! Such a lot of choice!!!!

Have a look at sofas from The Lounge Co. They have a showroom in London but also they are in some department stores in different parts of the country. To my untrained eye they seemed like better quality than Next for not that much more money .

redchocolatebutton · 16/10/2019 19:13

we had a next sofa bed (don't remember which sorry) for 10 years.
it's now in the village church youth shed and still going strong.

agree with pp chose the fabric well. ours was a dark denim type fabric.

photoposternamechanger · 16/10/2019 19:15

Have you not got zips Gin? My cushions are absolutely fine. I do turn them and rotate them from one side of the sofa to the other when I remember, probably a couple of times a month.

I would consider having new cushions made if I had to.

Gingercatlover · 16/10/2019 19:38

We have the 'Michigan' from Next and have had it a year next month it still looks brand new.
I do turn the cushions once a week though.
Can't fault them or the delivery team that brought them.

georgialondon · 16/10/2019 19:53

I'm not sure the name of my Next sofa but I really rate the quality of it. It's 10 years old and looks fantastic even with the toddlers having crawled all over it.

Ginfordinner · 16/10/2019 21:12

photoposternamechanger the covers have zips but the inner cushions don't. The stuffing has become horribly lumpy in spite of me turning the cushions and plumping them up every day.

photoposternamechanger · 16/10/2019 21:23

Oh I see Gin it’s funny because mine are fine. I can see that the back cushions on something like my Gosford sofas, which are the unbuttoned ones in pure wool tweed could lose their structure in time. I don’t mind the loss of structure/quite like the lived in look, but wouldn’t want lumps!

You can get replacement cushions from somewhere like Feather Wrapped Foam. That’s what I would do I think.

PigeonofDoom · 16/10/2019 21:33

Nope. My next sofa is a pile of shite. Far too soft, so you end up sat on each other if there’s 2 of you on it. Cushions look saggy and shapeless. Really poor quality for the cost and delivery was delayed by several weeks. Said they’d give a discount because of the delay but then didn’t. Delivery man was super rude and expected me to haul the sofa into the house myself even though I was very heavily pregnant (thankful the other delivery guy persuaded him that it be nice to bring it inside). I would never, ever buy a sofa (or any furniture for that matter) from Next again. Not remotely worth the money.

Can’t say it looks particularly warn fabric-wise but that’s because we bought an ikea sofa and now no one sits on the crappy next one Grin The ikea sofa is MUCH better for the money.

photoposternamechanger · 17/10/2019 06:53

I'm really surprised folk think they are crap - I like mine so much I went back three times in three years.

They weren't particularly cheap either circa £1000 for the two seaters, £1400 for three seaters.

I chose on shape, fabric price and delivery time combined. Apart from the wool tweed Gosford ones which where I liked them so much I waited 12 weeks.

PigeonofDoom · 17/10/2019 18:34

Well I didn’t choose expecting delivery time to be 3-4 weeks longer than they said it would be!

photoposternamechanger · 17/10/2019 19:18

Of course that's fair enough Pigeon but sometimes things/life happens, like my new car being delayed for four months or my landscaper turning up in august to refurb my garden instead of May.

I am still delighted with them and the delay is long forgotten ..... but clearly you are not.

PigeonofDoom · 18/10/2019 06:58

If the sofa had turned up and been great, I would still have been annoyed but probably forgotten eventually. It wasn’t though, it’s poor quality for the price paid and most importantly, not at all comfortable. A friend had a similar experience and even returned her sofa after a year because of sagging seats. They replaced it but the new one looks a wreck again after a few years. On principle now I won’t buy any of their homeware- they’re not getting any of my money for their overpriced tat!
