Fitted wardrobes for loft conversion

We're about to have a loft conversion so need to start planning the furnishings. We will want a run of fitted wardrobes along one wall to maximise the storage space. Friend just told me she had ordered some for her conventional non- loft bedroom from a local company and they were "only" 4.5k! Apparently the likes of Sharps etc are considerably more. Bit shocked at that as we don't have that kind of budget! Thinking of finding a local carpenter but not sure where to start. Grateful for any advice. We're in London area.

Thanks Smile

When we had a loft we got a carpenter in to fit to the shape. Be sure to use a joiner not a building carpenter. Colts £2k approx.

How big is the space? We are just doing out our dressing room. We are reusing some old fitted wardrobe carcasses from a bedroom and buying replacement doors but we needed new wardrobes for a 1.8m stretch. I found that by far the cheapest solution was to buy kitchen carcasses from ikea and just buy the wardrobe doors.

Thank you. Was thinking of getting quotes from some of the big companies to get their ideas/designs then finding a carpenter/joiner to build them. It's just finding someone good!

we found carpenters to be just as expensive and not easy to book in because theyre busy

Previous owners of our home had sharps fitted, we found the paperwork and it was 7k ShockShock for frankly hideous wardrobes in the attic

Personally I'd get a good carpenter if you can. The day rate is London is 250-350. The guy we use is 350 a day (and worth it!) But as above it can be tricky, ours works on luxury developments FT so does work Saturdays and Sundays for us... The other guy we use sometimes said he could come over to make a quote in Mar 2020!!!

Can you use IKEA Pax frames and get a carpenter to cut them down and/or fit molding to give them a built-in look? Lots of hacks online to give you an idea of what they would look like.

(and you can use all the IKEA Pax internal components for maximising the storage).

Is the wall a standard wall or will it be sloping due to being in the loft? If it’s straight I would recommend Ikea Pax. We’ve just put in a 2.5m run of the taller ones, which run completely floor to ceiling in our bedroom and look fitted, for £1k. That includes a huge number of drawers, shelves and hanging rails inside. We built it ourselves and it was very easy to do it but took us a couple of evenings.
