Fb school house white too dark - alternatives?

I had been planning on using FB school house white in my East facing reception room. However I've put it on the wall and it is too dark! Can anyone suggest an alternative lighter neutral please? Preferably FB to work with a light blue in the adjoining room separated by an arch.

How bright do you want it? Wimborne White is very cheerful

Thank you! I've just tried Wimborne white and it is a bit too yellow. Skimming stone also too dark, wevet too grey.

I didn't answer your question sorry! It is a very bright room, I just want a nice light neutral that won't clash with the blue (so nothing really pinky or yellow based)

Try Pointing! Had similar dilemma in east facing bedroom ☺️

Is it an FB blue in the other room? The website should give a white that complements it.

@SallyOMalley the white they suggest for the blue is All White, which is just white. I'd like a little more colour than just white

Message F&B for advice -they are fab. I msgd through FB & asked for advice on kitchen colours, told them aspects & sent photo of floor. They were great!

Ammonite? Can't remember whether that's lighter or darker, but a non yellow or or pink neutral slightly grey. DD spent hours painting a room with it over the summer (ceiling all white, woodwork is railings) and it looks very good indeed in a bright east facing room.

All White, or Shadow White. I can't go on enough about All White. Best colour ever.

Ammonite is too dark, and too grey, but thank you. This house really doesn't suit grey for some reason!

All White is just white, on my walls at least, and shadow white is a darker colour in the same group as SHW.

Try another brand? It doesn’t have to be Farrow and Ball...or is nothing else acceptable?

Agreed, but I like the finish and consistency of the paint and would prefer to stick to the one brand.

Other brands;

Dulux Cotton white and Sail White
Crown Milk White

We have Wimborne white in one room and it's very vanilla-y, wish we'd used Pointing instead.

I'm so fed up with it.

Strong white too grey and dark (one down from wevet which is also too dark)

Picked up a pointing tester and it just looks yellow. Argh. I've tried some little greenes that I had kicking around and they are all too dark or too grey.

I'm just going to give up and paint it timeless.

Well. I rang FB and they were very helpful. It looks like the problem is that by painting on top of white the contrast is making the colour look darker. I was a bit hmm about that but they suggested I paint it on to lining paper and move it around, and I'll be blowed, but SHW is exactly as I'd expected it to be. I am a bit baffled how it can be so different!

Put anything next to Brilliant white and it will look "dark"!

We have school house white in our east facing kitchen and I had the same concerns when we initially painted it on the PBW mist coated walls but it’s a lovely warm colour now the whole room is painted in it.

Recently I put school house white, white tie, lime white and slipper satin on four large A1 sheets, and next to each other. I was surprised how similar they are. Obviously I viewed them in isolation in the room context, but still.

Just to add, in case this influences a buying decision somewhere, the most noticeably different was white tie, which had a tiny hint of yellow in it.

Just to update, I did stick with my original colours. Wimborne white above picture rail and school house white picture rail walls and dado with white skirtings.

It is a little darker than I had hoped for, it's a creamy, milky coffee colour, but overall I am really pleased.

Why do you like all white? I’m worried it might be a bit stark ?

Wimborne white is great in a north facing room never looks yellow especially if you paint the ceilings in it too. It can look a tiny bit yellow against brilliant white though trick is to paint the ceiling and wood the same. It’s a lovely soft clean non dirty white if that makes sense not stark or muddy
