Does anyone have a mix of shaker and slab kitchen units?

We can’t decide on shaker or matt slab....
Thinking of maybe using both, one for the run of units along the wall, the other for the island.

What do people think?
Thanks.

I'm having the same dilemma - was 100% going for shaker but then a friend is having a slab kitchen because felt the shaker doors were too much of a faff to clean. I was just going to avoid anything with beading but now I'm torn! I think it would be fine because the shaker drawers I'm after are flat.... I'm not really a matchy type of person anyway... (sorry that I'm not answering your question though!) Could just tie the handles in?

I'm inclined to say go for one or the other. If you're doing them all from scratch why would you want it jumbled up (not being able to decide is not a good reason, sorry!)
What is your flooring / window covering / tap / cooker etc like?
I was sold on pics of very clean lined, contemporary kitchens on Pinterest and Houzz, but then realised I really like the tactile and longer lasting robust rustic style. And had chosen a freestanding gas cooker, traditional style tap, etc. I think shaker is more practical and if you can get solid wood even better as it can be painted updated etc over the years.

We haven’t even picked our flooring yet. It’s for a new kitchen extension so in the middle of picking everything!
We have sliding doors with no blinds, not chosen our taps yet. Although we do want induction hob and inbuilt oven.
I originally wanted wooden shaker but now I’m not sure if I like the grain! I do quite like the smooth shaker and smooth slabs. I was thinking it tying in handles too....
Ah it’s too hard!
Thanks for your comments!

You sound like you need an old school mood board ! Pinterest is fab but can be overwhelming , maybe print out / attach samples etc of things you like and stick up somewhere you'll see often?

I don't fancy a mix myself. Who knows though, maybe it'll be the next big thing after mix and match colours.

We couldn't choose at first either. We made the final decision after we'd chosen tiles and worktop.

Chickenandegg8 · 01/10/2019 10:04

That’s a good idea! I think I’ll do that!
We’ve picked colours - cream for wall units and sage for island.... which makes me think shaker would look better. But my oh likes slab....
I need to go looking at more kitchens I think! 😀

We went with quite uniform, "slabby" tiles and a fairly plain worktop, so we went with shaker to break it up.

If you are already doing different colours on wall and island, I wouldn't also do different styles of doors or it might look like the island was an afterthought! They should at least nod to each other.

I think the same style if different colours.

Chicken - if it's just the grain you don't like some painted wood doesn't show the grain? Our last one was tulipwood, I think - no grain visible at all...

My painted wood doesn't show the grain and it is why we chose this more expensive kitchen instead of Howdens. The two colours would work I knew someone who did that.

Mine are shaker but very plain so easier to clean.
