Floor protection for under dining table and chairs ideas?

We currently have wooden laminate flooring in our living/dining room, so at the moment, we’ve been using a rug under the table/chairs area to protect the floor from scratches. But I would rather have the rug under the sofa area, so that we’re warmer when we’re sitting there, and although the rug is patterned and hides stains well, I’d rather not have a rug under the table, if there’s an alternative we could use. I googled a bit, but only came up with those pads you put under the legs, and they don’t really work on our chairs, and got unstuck pretty quickly (that was done as our first attempt to protect the floor).
Is there any other solution that I haven’t come across or will it be a question of buying a second rug for the living area? The whole point of the wooden laminate flooring was to not carpet downstairs, but it’s not hard wearing enough for our family! And we can’t afford to replace the flooring any time soon.

You need this kind, they don’t come off and are easy to fit: www.wagner-system.de/en/quickclick

@onedayiwillmissthis
We have some Japanese ones on chairs round our island - they are different animal faces (pandas, cats, bears etc) Soooooo cute!

We tried handmade socks, but I don’t think they were the right tightness, and the DCs spent their time trying to take them off, but they might be worth trying again!
