Help! I want to bring my house into the 21st C.
I am stuck with curtains and poles.

At present I have pine poles because they did match the window frames and sills (but now frames replaced with white doubling glazing.)

It's rather J Lewis 'Croft' style. Lots of cream upholstery and carpets, lampshades, antique wood trunks, with a bit of turquoise/ teal cushions etc.

So...should I go for eyelet curtains? I want to buy ready made for price but some people have said they are inferior. In the past I've bought made to measure, pencil pleat, but don't want to shell out £££s now.

Are eyelet curtain more modern or just tacky?

If you were thinking of colour, would you have blue-grey curtains to tone with accessories, or cream, to give a totally neutral look?

Oh and the choice of poles is Putty colour wood, not pine - or maybe steel.

I think eyelet curtains can look a bit 90's fad. A bit cheap. They can look OK in a very casual setting.
Graphite metal pole for an update

I think eyelets are fine for bedrooms/rooms that are not really 'on show', they're neat and convenient. For a living room I would probably make the effort to have something a bit classier.

I have very recently come round to eyelet curtains, especially when buying ready made. Mainly because the heading tape on ready made hangs so badly!

I have some Laura Ashley and JL and the strings stretch, the metal hooks slip off, making the whole window look awful.

I am currently looking at JL ready made eyelet for my sitting room.

Graphite or stainless steel curtain poles look best IMO.

I think eyelet curtains are on the way out, and ready mades don't look great. Have a look in John Lewis at some of their made to measure display curtains for inspiration. Their prices are extortionate, but there are loads of independent curtain makers around who can do something much chaper.

I make my own, and personally like a double pinch pleat, but I think the wave system looks smart and contemporary.

If you can afford it, or can make your own, made to measure curtains look so much better.

Eyelet curtains are very dated, and cheap looking.

What you want is wave heading. I'm in the trade, and the majority of tracks we sell these days are SIlent Gliss wave. They sit really neatly, and it's a similar hanging effect to eyelet.

[PeoniesarePink ] they are lovely. I've just finished a pair of pinch pleat for me, and have vowed that I am going to get them made next time. Think I will go for wave, it looks really good.
