Placing of toilet ... under a window?

I know this isn't decorating (as yet, that is coming) but I am thinking of redoing my bathroom. I am on a bit of a tight budget, but then again if I am going to be doing it, I would rather do any moving around of sinks etc at the same time.

Currently my sink is under the window and the toilet is to the left of it, in the corner at an angle. I do have to replace the bath, toilet and sink. I don't like the sink being under the window because the mirror is on the other wall (above the toilet). So I am thinking of swapping the toilet and sink around, but that meas that the toilet will be under the window.

What are your thoughts on this?

I am not too concerned about anyone seeing in, although it does face the front of the house. We have a one story house (not in UK so not a double story) so that is not my concern. I just am not sure how a loo under a window will look. It will be opposite the door, so would be walking into the bathroom and seeing the toilet first if I move it.

I havent discussed the pipes with the plumber as yet, but dont think that will be too much of a problem, they are all going to be replaced and there is water to both those areas now.

Haven't the toilet under the window isn't an issue if nobody can see in.

One of our toilets in under a window and it's fine. Any aromas can go straight outside!

toomuchfaster · 02/08/2019 08:16

Our toilet is under the window as the bath is on the wall without! No issue at all.

We moved ours to under a window. Didn't give it a second thought. We were moving our soil pipe anyway though - previously it went right through the middle of the house, but we wanted it to be external, so putting the loo on the outside wall was the logical thing to do.

Presumably if you move the toilet, you will need to change the soil pipe too, and if you're on the ground floor you might just need to check there is enough of a drop between the loo and where it feeds into the main soil pipe.

Out toilet is under a window. Never seen it as a problem, no ones ever commented on it either so it’s pretty much a non-issue!

If you’re concerned, you can have a blind, a curtain, or one way glass in the window, so nobody sees in.

Our toilets are all under windows. Never given it any thought before

How low is window? Presumably glass is frosted.

Chasingsquirrels · 02/08/2019 17:29

Our main bathroom toilet is under the window (frosted), personally I don't like using it and prefer my en-suite. Partly it's the under-window-ness and partly the fact that it's a relatively big room and I just feel exposed.
It is also opposite the door as you enter the room and I don't see this as an issue at all.

Both of our toilets are under the window, no problem at all. I'd much prefer my sink on the wall so that a mirror can go above it.

Toilet under a window here too. No issue but as someone above said, if you are moving it you need to look at moving the soil pipe too. The soil pipe is more of an issue than the window tbh.
