Room Layout Options-DIAGRAM

NC just in case layout is really obvious!

We have finally decorated the biggest upstairs bedroom and having spent one night in it (our current room had been painted too and was drying), we've decided it's got a much better feel and view and would like to move into it.

Easy decision! However, they layout is fairly simple with a proud chimney breast (closed up fireplace), creating two alcoves.

The room seems to lend itself to a 'traditional layout' of the bed opposite the chimney breast.

However, we've really enjoyed sleeping facing the window and would like to try and have the bed facing it. The room is really big and the issue isn't space. It's more what to do with the alcove next to the bed as it creates this weird space next to the bed.

I'm not sure a bedside table would also fit nearer the door and need alternative bedside solutions!!

Can anyone recommend some design ideas to help us make this layout work-or suggest an alternative layout which has the bed facing the window?

Photo 1 is what I suspect is 'Traditional Layout'
Photo 2 is our 'proposed layout'

Thanks!!

Could you fit a narrow (same width as chimney breast) dressing table in there?

You have said that the room is very big - is it big enough to have the bed facing the window with the bed in the middle of the floor instead of up against the wall in your 2nd diagram?

If space truly isn't an issue I'd go for this type of layout:

We've had a similar room in the past and I loved it. We had a large console type table built behind the bed which held lamps, books, etc.

Keep the built in wardrobes where they are in diagram 1, the layout of the wardrobes in diagram 2 makes the room look out of proportion and also makes it more difficult to place furniture.

Ours is the same, very wide room. We've done this.... drawing to follow!

Here we go!

We've got floating shelves built in each alcove too, above the drawer units so as not to waste the wall space.

Love the layout, works well for us.

Wow, thanks so much for your design ideas!

@Aroundtheworldin80moves -I'm not sure we have the width next to the bed to fit a dressing table in the alcove as would need a stool that could get in and out. The alcove is probably a foot deep so not quite enough for a table in it.

@BluntAndToThePoint I do love that design. Space sort of isn't an issue but width sort of is! So then space probably is aswell 😆. If we moved the bed more centrally we could then use the space against the wall-would it look a bit weird and off centre though to have two built in wardrobes in the alcove wall and then bed in the middle of the room? I feel like the room needs to be wider to pull that look off (but you would have plenty of room to walk around the bed and I do like being closer to the windows)

@goldpendant Your room looks superb and looks like you have loads of beautiful windows! The design looks like it works a treat-my worry is our room is your room but on the narrow edge and feel that makes a difference. The windows are normal double glazed but we are getting them replaced to look a bit better than they do (currently 80s upvc).

I'm definitely going to investigate the bed more in the middle of the room!
