Painting behind radiators - do I need a professional to remove rads?

We've recently had our loft done and need to paint it. I've got lovely slate grey coloured column radiators and I don't want to mess them up with paint.

Do I need to take them off or is there some nifty way of painting behind them while they're still attached to the wall?

If they need to come off, is this a DIY job that we should be able to do ourselves or do I need to pay a plumber?
TIA.

How good of a painter are you? You can buy an long, angled paintbrush and do it very carefully with them still attached.

I buy skinny roller brushes and do behind them I also have lots of damp cloths to wipe off the excess paint I splash

I'm not a great painter. Can you reach the whole way behind them just using the long angled brush?

Cover the radiator as much as you can, and have at it with a radiator roller or a long angled brush. We've had a plumber to remove radiators when we've had walls skimmed, but I'm firmly of the opinion that if you can't see it, it doesn't need painting. You can reach enough with a roller.

Sorry, I've just seen you have column radiators; a plumber is your best option.

Thanks. I'm hoping it's a relatively cheap/easy job.

You could use paint pads too, as an option for reaching behind the radiator

When we painted our bathroom, we covered the heated towel rail in cling film and used the thinnest roller we could find on a long handle. Don't know what a column heater is though so don't know if that's helpful!
