bathroom floor

I would really appreciate any ideas about what to do with our bathroom floor. We bought an old "fixer-upper", and hastily, having sold and moved 200 miles, had a wood-look flooring laid throughout the house so that we could move in.A year later, we discovered that the floor under the shower/loo was rotten, and had to pull up the flooring, and we decided to do a few essential changes while we were about it. Now we discover that the flooring has been discontinued, and have been left with a patchy and unfinished floor. The area is in front of the loo and beside/in front of the shower, in total, about 25%-30% of the bathroom. Do you think that it would look strange to have tiles laid in the bare area, in a colour that would tone/blend with the wood floor? There might be an interesting textural contrast between the two types of flooring, I can't think what else to do. There would probably be a slight difference in height, which might make the flooring a bit of a trip hazard. The trouble is, we are very, very isolated, and getting people out to bring samples and give advice is next to impossible. I would appreciate any ideas, thank you!

I'm afraid it is difficult to comment without seeing a picture of the floor. It shouldn't be too difficult to get samples though. We are redoing our bathroom floor and I have received about 20 samples from different companies which have all arrived by post.

How about something like an interesting contrast tile into the wooden flooring? I should have attached a pic of hexagonal tiles going into wooden floors, something like that might look more on purpose than an accidental "haven't got the right stuff to finish the job" kind of look?

Thank you both so much for your responses! That's an interesting idea with the "free-flow" tiles. Unfortunately, apples, we're not in the UK and I doubt that companies would post samples. They tend simply to expect customers to come in to the stores to browse. One of the few drawbacks of living in paradise.

I'd no idea you weren't in the UK. When you said you had moved 200 miles I imagined you living somewhere in the Highlands. If it is any help, I've found the samples I have been sent have pretty much all been darker than the images on the websites. That includes both ones that have been wood effect and also ceramic tile effect.
