Living room furniture, help?

I could do with some advice. Moved out of a beautiful character barn conversion that had mid oak colour wood flooring, exposed brick and a black wood burner. We had oak furniture with black metal bits. All very nice.

Moving into a brand spanking new build, pale oak floors. No character. Our old stuff isn't going to go but I'm not sure what to get?

Gone a bit trendier in the kitchen but can have more traditional in the living room. Have brown leather sofas that have to stay (can't justify replacing) and I've got some 'country style' canvases I want to have up (browns, greens of my old horse, other animals).

I'm not sure about the usual painted/wood top stuff, unless it's really good quantity and the wood tends to look dark?

So I think I want light/bit trendy/bit traditional tv unit, coffee table etc. And got about 1500 to spend. Any ideas?

Personally I would take the furniture that you already own and like to the new house and live with it for six months before you decide if it needs replacing and what with. Sometimes you can think something just won’t work but actually it does, it may be that it’s the soft furnishings and decorative bits that need changing rather than the big stuff.

I always think it’s a bit sad when people do rooms all at once, I think it’s better that the space sort of evolves as you live in it and work out what works for you and what doesn’t.

I quite like some of the Ercol living room furniture. They are quite pricey but you can get good deals if you look around, and they also have a outlet which is on facebook and ebay.

Habitat had a couple of quite nice mid-century style TV units, which were reasonably priced.
