We live in a typical 1930s 3 bed semi and we've just finished some building work: a loft conversion and a kitchen extension. The dining room and kitchen are now knocked into one.
Our chosen decorator can now come sooner than planned ... Next Monday! I need to choose colours quickly. So ....
- Hall, landing and stairs up to door to loft bedroom. Hall faces north, with easterly light coming in at ground, first and second floor. In general, quite a light space. Original 1930s stained glass and bannisters/woodwork.
I'm thinking Dulux Egyptian cotton or similar on walls, with a softish off-white on all woodwork. Too bland? Too sludgy for a north facing room?
- south facing kitchen diner, an L shaped space with lots of light through doors and rooflights. Grey/navy kitchen, light grey kitchen tiles and an ash brown (ie fairly cool toned) wood flooring in dining room.
I'm stuck here. I don't really want to go for grey. White, with lots of colourful prints? Help!
Bifold doors lead from this space into front living room which faces north. We have a colour that works in here and we're thinking of just refreshing it - it's a warm sandy colour that works well with darkish woods and blue toned fabrics in the room.
Can I get away with something completely different in the dining room, the other side of the glazed bi-folds??
The same wooden flooring will be laid throughout the ground floor (except kitchen)
- loft bedroom - faces south with lots of light from large windows. I've seen a gorgeous teal colour that would look great behind the bed with mid toned wooden furniture. Other walls fairly neutral.
But ... Back to kitchen and hall/stairs. If you've read this far, ta! Any thoughts? Have you done something similar? Pinterest is doing my head in and the paint swatches are a blur ...
