Matching curtains throughout open plan layout?

Do you think open plan type layouts should have matching curtain/blinds throughout?
We've got a fairly old house that has had some of the internal walls removed so whilst each "room" is very distinct from each other, it's still pretty much open plan downstairs and you can see the whole ground floor from most positions. I've already done the curtains for the biggest windows at quite an expense but at the time I wasn't really thinking about the rest of the downstairs. Kicking myself for that now! Now I want to sort out the rest of the curtains and it's suddenly occured to me that perhaps it would look best if it all matched? Rather than different colour schemes for each "room" which I'm wondering might just look a bit too busy as it's not a huge house. Annoyingly the exact fabric I used is no longer available but I can get something very close or alternatively just go for a neural fabric that blends in but I'm worried that would look a bit bland as the walls and a lot of the furniture is cream/neutral.
What would you do?
Suppose I can always add colour with the cushions etc. I like light neutrals but don't want it to end up looking really boring!

All the same colour I think would be a bit matchy for my tastes, but I don't think it would look bad. If you don't want that, I think just making sure they don't clash is fine.

Personally I would go for a cohesive colour scheme across the whole space, but use a range of colours, not just one bright colour and the rest neutrals. Then you can vary how much of each colour you have in each "room" so it doesn't feel matchy but it's not visually jarring. So you might have navy curtains in one bit and teal curtains in another bit, but if you have a mix of teal, navy and pink cushions, rug(s), lamps, etc around the whole space, it will feel like it's one space with different zones.

How about keeping the expensive curtains and using blinds on the other windows, picking out a colour from the curtains? Maybe add cream/neutral curtains too if it needs it.

And I agree I'd go for a couple of stronger colours, not just one, and mix elements of both throughout the space with one clearly dominating the other.
