Hi all

I’m having some work done and would appreciate your input.

We are knocking through kitchen and dining room, putting bifold doors across back into garden and the attached are the plans and 2 pictures for cabinet and worktop layout.

My question is where to place the sink. In the middle looks symmetrical but on the right with the reconfiguration of the cupboards it provides more worktop space. I’m worried about worktop space on this kitchen but the difference is about 20cm.

What’s more important 20cm worktop space or a pretty and symmetrical kitchen.

(I’ve added a picture of the other side now to give more of an idea).

Your thoughts would be most appreciated!

Apparently my pictures didn’t attach and I’m only allowed 3! Trying again

Wouldn't worry about the symmetrical. Worry about what is practical and having a run of working top and somewhere to put the wet pots is most important

I don't love either of the sink positions. I'd rather have space on one side for the dirty plates etc and space on the other for draining. If you don't have either draining board or bit of worktop on either side, won't that make washing up rather awkward? It looks from the first pic like you have 2 X 60 cupboards (I assume one is DW?) and an 80 for the sink. I'd be inclined to go 60, 80, 60 so the sink is in the middle. Have the DW on the right so it is clear of the island. If there's not space for that, shrink the tall cupboard or sink cabinet.

Personally I'd lose the tall cabinet on that wall and just have base and wall cabinets, to maximise work top.

I think the off centre sink is better as someone can walk past you more easily than when you are between a symetrical sink and the island.

Off centre if those are the only options but I’m not wild about either layout

Neither. You need worktop/drainage space on both sides of the sink!

I agree with the sink not really being practical for the dishes
