Painting orangey pine doors

All of the doors in my holiday home are orangey pine (more orangey irl than on the pic). I thought I would try this cupboard door first, then gradually work my way around the home.

My question is: do I need to prime it first? House is only 12 years old.

I plan to clean / quick sand / clean again then paint using white satinwood. Do I need to use a primer before the paint?

Yes, I would. It’s a case of less haste more speed. You can get a water based primer/undercoat that is quick drying and will give a strong Matt base. If you try eggshell without you will need two coats and will have to wait a day between coats. Quick light sand after undercoat.

Sorry for eggshell read satinwood. Both oil based

If they’re not solid wood you need to use specialist cupboard door paint or they’ll chip over time.
If they’re solid wood, use white knotting (liquid treatment which stops the natural oil in the knotty bits seeping through the paint over time and causing orangey blobs) then prime, lightly sand, and paint with your chosen finish.

Great, thank you. Off to the DIY store with your tips.
