White and more white - am I being lazy?

I’m getting a new kitchen fitted at the end of this week and need to get at least a base coat of paint up on newly plastered walls and ceiling. I’ve decided I want white walls (but really can’t afford the all white f&b paint). Tempted to just get a big pot of Dulux trade white and paint walls, coving and ceiling with it. If I really don’t like it I can always make the second coat of the walls something a bit more exciting. Am I being really lazy or is it worth a go?

If its freshly plastered it would be silly to use the expensive F&B paint first. You also should water down whatever you do use so the first coat absorbs into the plaster more and sticks properly.

You will probably need at least 3 coats on fresh plaster :-( but think of the arm muscles you will have later :-)

Couple if coats if white trade paint and if you a more adventurous colour then get trade paint matched to farrow and ball colour. We always get the Farrow and Ball colour but in a washable trade paint!

Dulux trade white isn't that good for a mist coat as it's quite thick. Get the 10l Leyland or 10l crown and use a bucket to water it down and apply.

If you don't mist coat then your new paint can peel off the new plaster.

I've just done 5 rooms including ceilings plus hallway, landing and stairs as it was all replastered.

I used the cheapest paints I could find and crown and leyland were the best. Leyland has a nice finish in the matt for plain white walls and its easy to go on and is now my favourite Matt whereas crown used to be.

As its a kitchen crown mid sheen is wipeable and it goes on easily and though labelled brilliant white it's more soft white probably because of the low sheen.

I use it where I want a white that's softer and more muted.

Armistead which is dulux trade is nice but so thick.

Brilliant advice from you all, thank you! Glad I asked as I’ve just had to google mist coat Confused
I’m going to get some Leyland now and see how we get on and like suggested can always chuck another colour on it later if I want. Had anyone used Dulux diamond? Wondered if it’s worth it as it’s scrubbable?

We’ve used the dulux diamond and it’s great. Expensive but it’s truly scrubbable (we have it on wall by the stairs and grubby children’s handprints come right off with no loss of colour). Will definitely be getting it again when we move (going to get F&B colours matched in it I think).

Screwfix new plaster paint is excellent , no faffing with mist coats and really good coverage.
