Hello so I asked for advice on cheap decorating on here thanks for that advice this is abit of a vent really and also not sure what to do
So me and OH are planning on saving for mortgage this will take 2/3 years so I will be living here until then but I feel so stressed about this house I don't let people in there's so much work to be done and I'm sick of spending money on a house that's not mine I started painting landing white today but the walls are so bad It kind of highlights how bad they are there's a hole in the ceiling that's been there since before I moved in I tried to patch it up but it's just crumbled and looks a mess
Every room needs new flooring the carpet on the stairs is practically thread bare SadConfused

What does your landlord say? Can you afford to move to a different rental?

MyDcAreMarvel · 25/03/2019 17:09

Carpets and essential decorating are the landlords responsibility.

TiReDmUmone · 25/03/2019 17:36

@Lightsabre I looked at moving Into a different rental but the cost of this would be around 1600 I haven't managed to find anything in this area that's decent either so I'm thinking that could go in my mortgage pot
They are nice landlords but everything is cheap as possible as they have many houses
@MyDcAreMarvel they won't replace it I've asked for other things that cost a lot less that haven't been done
I'm just feeling frustrated that Im going to have to pay out for the floors because it's so embarrassing how bad it is

It’s really not acceptable for him not to fix it.

TiReDmUmone · 26/03/2019 13:09

@MyDcAreMarvel I'm not really sure what the rules are around them paying for carpet I looked online and it was saying carpet can be down for 10 years but surely that should be to do with the quality of the carpet that is down the millimetre thin cord is unlikely to last 10 years I would think

The carpets in our rental won’t last 10 years, I’ll be happy with 2 out of them tbh but that is the strategy work on the theory they’ll be trashed and changed often.
Decor personally I’d be of the stance that’s how it was when you moved in, take it or leave it

TiReDmUmone · 27/03/2019 18:36

@Inliverpool1 I've lived in the property for 6 years so I've had to redecorate I was a student for the past 3 years so I've not been able to afford carpet to replace it

Try using Matt paint if you haven't , any shine reflects faults.Perhaps use matchpots to checkfor a colour rather than white ? I just brought a rug in TKMax for £20 to try and improve living room .at least it covers some of floor and you can take it with you .

TiReDmUmone · 01/04/2019 12:26

Thank you for all the ideas I've painted the landing white and I managed to find that people were selling rolls of spare wallpaper on fb so I got 3 rolls for 20 pound I'm going to use this to cover one of the walls that is really bad .
I've got someone coming out Friday to measure up for carpet on a pay weekly scheme not everyone would agree but it's the only way I will be able to afford it right now and there is no interest.

Why not buy a big rug instead of carpets? Then you can take it with you.

TiReDmUmone · 01/04/2019 14:41

@AwkwardPaws27 the stair carpet is the main issue

How long has the carpet been down?

A carpet should last10 years if it is looked after properly, kept clean etc. Have you got any photos of the stairs carpet?
