I have a large east facing hall in a modern house. Double height so the staircase is a bit of a feature. Lots of light.

I’m drawn to uplifting colours I think. We have James White in the south facing living room, which looks really beautiful. I’m not keen on things like Cornforth White (too cool), Lime White (too muddy). I also prefer woodwork and walls to be the same, or maybe woodwork darker than walls.

I’m not sure whether to go for ‘all colours in a house from the same family’ idea, or ‘all colours of same tonal weight’. Or, paint hall a contrasting colour to all other rooms so you open out into them.

If it’s already light and bright would painting the whole thing Stiffkey Blue, for example, be weird, should I embrace light and bright? But then will I end up with a house full of slightly off white and feel it’s boring?

Sorry for the epic post.Grin

Given that you've already started with Great White, I think the Farrow and Ball website is your friend here as you can look up all the complementary colours and recommended colour schemes. Personally I like lots of colour, but I think all white houses can be stunning - only you can decide if its boring for you.

Like I said, great fan of colour but if your hall is lovely and light I wouldnt paint it dark. Stiffkey blue is beautiful but hallways are usually a lot of hassle to repaint.

I would either carry through the Great White, using a stronger accent colour (or maybe painting the lower half of the wall) like Pelt or Tanners Brown. OR, if you want a stronger statement, go for a co-ordinating pink like Calamine or Cinder Rose.
