After years of hardwork and savings my mortgage application got approved. Now the next steps I am really worried about are:
Building Insurance
Carpet
Furniture including beds, cupboards, sofa etc

The house is small x2 bedroom and I am now looking for any help as naive person who does not know nothing about carpets what to look for and where to find quotes etc. Also where do I start for furniture for at least beds and sofa etc. Finally Building insurance is it okay to shop around or go to a particular bank for that ?

Any help or guidelines would be much appreciated.Smile

Ikea is a good starting point. Not only are their prices good, it’s all available now. Some furniture places take weeks. Also, in Ikea you can look around the showroom and get ideas. Dont forget to go to Bargain Corner near the tills. There is nearly always a sofa there!

You don’t need to get everything straight away.

Also put the word out amongst family and friends. You might be able to get some things that people have lying around.

For carpets, find an independent carpet shop. They will be able to give you a rough estimate from your measurements but will come to the house to measure to give you a proper quote.

I think browse online for a carpet style with reasonable reviews and then see if you can get a roll of it from an online supplier.

For furniture, try Ebay, and local for sale boards.

Don't think you have to get everything in one go. Even if cost isn't an issue, you need to live in the house before deciding what it needs. We moved into ours with a tv (stood it on a cardboard box) a bed (cardboard boxes for bedside tables) and 2 padded reclining deckchairs to sit on whilst reading a ton of interiors magazines to get ideas. If you look at somewhere that does buy now pay in a year on carpets and sofas, you could save and pay it off once the monthly payments start. That's what we did.
