Toy storage - Ikea or GLTC?!

I really need some better toy storage to go in my lounge and I can’t decide at all between Ikea Kallax or GLTC Abbeville storage?! Obviously the big price difference is what’s holding me back... I’ve already got a smaller Kallax unit and although they’re great for the price I do feel like they get discoloured and tatty looking within a few years, but then I guess they are cheap to replace although that feels a bit wasteful. The GLTC units look nicer and I prefer the range of rope baskets to put in them, but they’re sooo much more expensive even with the 20% off deals that constantly run.

Has anyone got the GLTC one and can tell me if it’s worth the extra cost?! And if the storage is decent? I know the cubes are a bit smaller than Kallax units and that’s another thing slightly putting me off, wondering if the baskets will hold enough?

TIA Smile

Depends where you are putting it, for me we bought cheap storage and now the kids are older, most of their stuff is out of sight in their rooms.

It needs to go in the lounge which is what’s swaying me towards GLTC as it looks a bit nicer I think...

Do you think you'll still want them in a few years when DC are older and past the plastic toys stage? Personally I think the Kallax suits grown up spaces more, and I like the way you can adapt it by adding cupboards and drawers as DC get older.

Do you know what the quality is like on the GLTC? I haven't had Abbeville but we had a dolls' house style bookcase from them. It was a lovely design and I don't regret buying it, but it was £100 for cheap melamine flatpack. For that item, you definitely paid for the design not the construction.

I've had both ikea & GLTC in the past, honestly just go with ikea. By the time kids have had their way with them for a while everything looks tatty regardless of the original cost & quality. Also go for wicker baskets rather than cloth as the cloth ones attract dust & marks after a while that doesn't come off easily.

QuietlyQuaffing Hmmm that’s a good point I suppose once we are past the mountains of plastic toys I will plan to buy a nice sideboard for the space so maybe cheap Ikea is the way to go for a few years....
