Sofabed/daybed recommendations

We’re thinking about remodelling the upstairs of our house, turning 3 bedrooms into 2 (leaving one alone, so from 4 beds to 3). Currently we have a conventional spare room with a double bed in it and not much else. It doesn’t get a lot of use for guests, just occasional, but does get used when DH or I decamp for the night. That’s either planned (one of us is ill, or is going out drinking, or has a really early start) or unplanned (snoring, that is all, snoring).

I REALLY want the new, slightly larger, room to be a further living area, with somewhere to sit and read or watch TV - our downstairs is open plan so no space to do different things. A sofabed would seem like the obvious choice, but DH is adamant that anything we get has to be very quickly convertible into a bed. I do see his point - it’s bad enough having to go to the spare room cos he’s snoring as it is, I’d be livid if If was having to open up a sofabed, put sheets on, find bedding ...

So far I’m thinking an Ikea Hemnes daybed could work - sheet on the mattress, possibly the duvet on as well, and then a cover (my mum makes quilts, I’ll probably give her a commission) over the whole lot. Cushions on it for day and pillows in one of the drawers for nights if it’s needed at short notice - whip the cover off, chuck cushions on the floor, replace with pillows, and get the duvet out if it’s not already on.

He’s still dubious as obviously it’s not as easy as now, but I don’t want a room that’s home to a spare bed getting little use (it’s been used 7 nights this year, 4 of which were planned, so the above rigmarole wouldn’t be necessary).

Does anyone have any suggestions of other daybeds, sofabeds, etc, that can be switched from day to night mode really quickly? Or amazing tricks doe doing so that I’ve not thought of?

We have the hemnes day bed and I would highly recommend it. It converts easily to a huge bed and is actually plenty large enough for one person to sleep on as a single. It's big though, so measure carefully.

That’s a good point, the room might be a bit narrow where I want it to go, it’ll be really annoying if it won’t fit bedside tables of some kind.

It also LOOKS big, iyswim...because of the high sides and back and the large drawers beneath. So somehow it looks a lot bigger than a normal single bed. Funnily enough, I was forced to decamp to ours in the middle of last night due to DP snoring. Very comfy it was too!

If it turns it that the hemnes is too large for you, have a look at wrought iron daybed which look a lot more delicate/Less chunky and still have a trundle mattress beneath, just no drawers.

We’re okay - I’ve found a copy of the house floor plan quicker than a tape measure, and the room will be 8ft wide at that point. And it won’t have bedside tables as such because of the way it’s orientated.

Should be fine then op. As I said, I'm really pleased with ours. Also, it's much easier to manoeuvre than it looks, one person can easily pull it out to extend into a bigger bed. Dressed with lots of cushions, it looks lovely as a day bed too.

If only one person is likely to be using the room for chilling, then would there be room for one armchair rather than worrying about sofa/daybed conversion?

We have the heaves daybed it is so bloody comfy even as a single and the drawers are fab.
