Not flatpack. I need a dressing table, tall slim chest of drawers, normal sized chest of drawers and one bedside table.

I keep going round in circles. Willing to spend £1200 ish which will get me stuff from this range, or a few of the other ranges there.

I don't like anything/or the things I do like are too expensive at Habitat, Heals, Laura Ashley, M&S or Next.

Have looked at Oak Furnitureland today after someone mentioned it but have read bad reviews and I don't want to drive 30 miles to look at it this weekend.

Where else is there to look??

Try wayfair. Lots of different ranges and free delivery

I have never heard of them Muddy - what is the quality like (I know B&S is really good quality hence I am drawn there)

I've had stuff from Oak Furnitureland which was ok but not brilliant quality-wise. I've recently got 2 bedside tables and a tall boy from Cotswold Co in painted wood which I've been more impressed by

Gumtree/eBay

My son's furniture was from Barker and Stonehouse and really happy with it!

Cotswolds co.

Made.com and Swoon have some pieces of furniture.

GailTheFish · 02/02/2019 07:11

Gah - that was meant to say “lovely pieces of furniture “!

I don't think your expectation of quality matches your budget.

Wayfair is good in as much as the quality and price go from very cheap to very expensive.

What's wrong with flat pack?

flatpackbox · 02/02/2019 08:34

I don’t want flat pack Holly. I recently spent £800 on four items of ikea’s white wood Hemnes range for DD. It is fine enough, the back of the bookcase and storage thing are flimsy, not what I want for myself.

How much do your you think I should be spending then?

Have you ever been to B&S? They generally sell quality furniture, we and my family have got lots from there over the years.

I think your budget is fine. Look at swoon, homesense, cotswold company and next do some solid pieces. Read the reviews on wayfair as some things are quite high end.

Look out on gumtree and ebay for high end furniture. Some people sell nearly new pieces reduced, as do lots of suppliers and shops.

I also agree about hemnes flimsy backs, such as shame as the wood and the designs are nice.

flatpackbox · 04/02/2019 11:30

I have gone with the grey Carrington oak B&S stuff £1300 ish with 25% off in the sale. It is really solid.

Yes, the Hemnes wood is nice enough but the backs are 😳. Not much better than cardboard, I was really surprised at the backs.

Not sure where in the country you are but near me there’s a local furniture maker who makes anything from solid pine and paints any f&B colour. I got dd a chest of drawers 2 over 5 (huge) for £350. It’s so solid she could use it as a climbing frame. I can imagine it will last a lifetime and we can repaint if her taste changes. Could that be an option?

I’m saving for a huge wardrobe / toy cupboard next. They’ve quoted me £550 delivered which I think is insanely good value
