We have just moved into a 'project' and for the foreseeable will be having the kids toys in the dining room 😳 what do you do in this situation? Any great tips for storage? Got my eye on some IKEA Kallax so at least stuff can be concealed. It's not a huge room and our dining table is pretty big

I don't have much to contribute to this thread but thought it might help bump you up a bit :)
I'd imagine a chest or perhaps a shelving unit with boxes etc? Is there a corner of the room that can be the designated play area? How old are the kids? Do you imagine they'll use the table themselves for play?

Use whatever height the room has. Built in cupboards right to the ceiling.

Bench for dining table with storage in it.

Definitly go to Ikea - there stuff is sturdy and holds a lot. You really can’t beat it. It’s also cheap and easy to pass in when you don’t need it anymore.

Our (small extendable) dining table is in the playroom and we've got an Ikea hemnes glass fronted cabinet (top half glass) which hides all our games and puzzles, two trofast units on top of each other for most of their toys, and alcove shelving for books etc. We've also fitted a sofa bed in and it looks ok. We've sort of zoned it by having a big rug (also Ikea!) in the playroom half. Of course they play everywhere except the playroom but it's handy for storage Grin

I wasn't a fan of kallax (unlike the rest of mn!) as I find the boxes too big to be useful storage and the holes without boxes aren't much use for anything except huge toys. Ours is used for Lego display and books. Also my kids don't play with anything hidden in boxes/drawers as they forget it's there.

Depends If you want the toys visible or not, I find ikea storage a bit common so I'd look to using trunks, personalised toy boxes or ottoman benches as a solution. Does the dining room have alcoves?

TheRhythmlessMan · 01/02/2019 06:07

@Jorgezaunders that's a great idea! (Might use that myself!)Grin

Open shelving with rush boxes.

I prefer Besta to Kallax, much bigger cupboards. Our playroom has a wall of Besta for toys and a wall of Svalnas for the books and computer.

I’m cross I didn’t save the original Facebook post but this woman’s storage looks amazing:

She uses Ikea kitchen cabinets

I've got Ikea trofast units in the dining room, and got a smaller dining table!

I had wooden chests from Argos , they were unfinished - I varnished them. 15 years later they are still going strong , now used as garage storage.
