White kitchen worktop

Hi everyone,
I would like white worktops in my new kitchen but unsure which material would be best. I've not liked any of the white laminates I've seen, they don't quite look right. I'm not too fussy about what type of finish it has (although would prefer a matt look), but am mainly concerned with durability and maintenance.

I've read that the Corian style worktops can scratch easily so want to avoid anything like that.

Budget is mid range I would say. We need about 6m, ideally wouldn't spend more than 2kish (although partner doesn't know this yet Wink I just need to find the perfect worktop so I can convince him. It needs to be something we will get at least 15 years worth of good use out of it.

Hope someone out there has had the same search and can help Smile

Don't do it unless you never drink tea, coffee or red wine and never eat curry.

I have a white glitter quartz worktop.

If it gets stained occasionally I have a bottle of baby bottle sterilising solution and either a quick wipe down which usually does it or occasionally I soak a cloth in sterilising solution and it comes up a treat.

Oliversmumsarmy · 26/01/2019 22:26

Should say soak a cloth in sterilising solution and leave it on the stain overnight and it comes up great

sparkling123 · 26/01/2019 22:28

Shock is it really that bad for staining? I am a fairly clean person.... yeah... maybe white isn't a great idea hahaha

I've got a white quartz worktop. I was worried about staining but Barkeepers
Friend Cream (supplied with worktop, can buy from Lakeland) is amazing and gets all stains off easily.

Oliversmumsarmy · 26/01/2019 22:38

No definitely not bad for staining. Only used the sterilising solution twice in 4 years for a stain. But occasionally wipe over with the solution as it makes it sparkle

After sleeping on it and reading a few other mn posts with exactly the same question I've decided against it. I've got a young baby and hoping for more, I barely have time to clean under the toaster so if I'm honest with myself I don't actually think I will be able to keep on top of the cleaning! Thanks for advice though, might be something I go for in the future

sparkling123 if you can’t clean then whatever you have is going to get dirty.

Don’t get put off! We’ve got a white quartz with flecks in and it is absolutely gorgeous. I just wipe with water and an ecloth. The flecks mean you can’t see the crumbs. And I had a tiny stain after a curry and just wiped with washing up liquid to get off. Would definitely recommend

We have white quartz with a bit of a flek and sparkle....for the size you want it def would have been within your budget (shop around though and haggle- we did!). We love it! Any tricky marks then bar keepers friend (can buy from amazon) spray works wonders. I actually think white quartz is more forgiving than dark as it doesn’t smear so much. If I was going laminate though I might do a slightly darker colour...maybe grey....

I've got engineered quartz and am really happy with it. I was a bit sceptical about it remaining white, but it's stood up to coffee, tomato and curry spillages with no stains and it hasn't scratched either so far. There are quite a few different brands , I can't remember which we've got, but Silestone and Caesarstone are two examples. There's quite a difference in prices between brands and ranges, so shop around and get a few quotes.

On the other hand a friend of mine bought the cheapest plain white laminate and is thinking it will last maybe 3-4 years but is cheap to replace. It looks fine and is practical.

My white quartz cleans and stays looking clean a lot easier than my old black worktop! I've got white with a grey vein so it looks like marble and just keep a bottle of Bar Keeper's Friend under the sink for any spillages that cause a stain.

Maxtop from Magnet. Lovely stuff!!

Hullabaloo31 · 06/02/2019 12:18

We've got white quartz, been in nearly a year and doesn't have any stains on yet. We're fairly careful but it seems super hard wearing so far.

underoverunder · 06/02/2019 15:50

We also have white quartz with sparkly flecks in it. If anything it looks cleaner than other worktops because you don't notice every little crumb on it and there are no smears. So long as you run a cloth over it just as you would any other worktop after you've been prepping food, then it is not an issue. The only time it is temporarily stained is if someone is careless when making a curry and it gets turmeric on it. It still comes off though.

I absolutely love my white quartz worktop and if you have a kitchen that gets direct sunlight, sometimes you get little rainbows projected on the walls and ceiling from the sprakles in the stone.

We rented in a house with a corian worktop. Bar keepers friend was magic for making it gleam but it scratched so easily!!
I ALWAYS used a chopping board and had mats down (completely ruining the look) but there still managed to be light scratches all over it. It didn't look bad but in the light you could see.
When we left the house the landlord tried to claim for a whole new worktop (quoted £3000). Luckily the middleman (the deposit scheme thing) agreed it was fair wear and tear. PHEW.

Anyhoo, I know you've already decided against it but wanted to add my tuppence anyways
