Hand-me-down AGA worth it?

I am renovating an old cottage which needs a total kitchen renewal.
My mother has offered me her 2 oven gas AGA for nothing....
It's old but works fine. May need re enamelled though.

Anyone have experience of the removal, installation and possible re-enamelling of an AGA?
I've had one before and loved it, but currently have 2 basic slide-an-hide NEFF ovens and a big induction hob (which I do love).
I think it would suit the new house, but would it be hugely more expensive?

Thoughts welcomed!

I wouldn't voluntarily have one unless you have the lifestyle that requires one.

They can be very expensive to run and you have you make some major changes to the way you cook to use one.

I would happily give ours away for free to a willing victim too given half a chance.

They are good for drying clothes, warming lambs, leaning against in winter after you have been feeding animals in the snow and are frozen to the core and they look pretty. Other than that... nah

We inherited our 2 oven gas Aga. Love it and wouldn't want to be without it however ours was already in situ.

Costs a fortune to remove old agas as they are so heavy. Very often involves specialist removal depending on where they are located. Doubt it would be worth it unless it's in pristine condition

I lived with a coal-fuelled AGA many years ago- it would heat the whole house really snug in the winter but the kitchen was unbearable as soon as it got warm outside!

I'd call an engineer and get a quote. They are brilliant but need to be reassembled professionally.

DM grew up with one, dh’s this hace one fir years, then got one second have when she moved about 20 years ago. I cavtvremberef exactly how much it cost to move it, service it, re-enamel it and reinstall it, but I don’t think it was less than £2k.

She does love it though, and because she grew up with one, uses it to the max. Her gas bill is about 4 x what ours is though, and her house is only a bit bigger.

Many thanks all. Despite loving AGAs, my budget won’t stretch.
Induction it is!
