What would you do to these French doors?

Doors into the garden. 9ft high by 7ft wide.

They currently have curtains but I hate the fact that our crocs (worn to go to the bin etc) are on the floor beneath them, the dog comes and goes out of the door etc., etc..

They aren't dirty as I push them right back but they are just waiting to get dirty and I think there must be a better solution.

The window is overlooked by a few houses so I do need something there.

Hiya

I have 2 roller blinds. One for each door. One is down more than the other as we are in and out all the time with dogs.

Curtains, for me, would be grubby instantly, and have dog hair catching on the bottom.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 29/12/2018 20:51

Thanks that is a great idea. I inherited the curtains and blinds and they are really nicely made but completely date the kitchen.

How have you mounted them? If I mounted them to the wooden frame then the door handle would stick out in the middle.

Is there any reason you went for two rather than one? I would be worried about one getting dirty (dog related) if I left it down.

I thought one long blind would just be so large. Plus if one got too dirty, it could be replaced. I also wanted access to one door, and leave one door with a blind down.

I mounted them to the recess above the door frame. So into the plaster.

The handles are seen, but again it suits my needs.

Thanks Duck.

I think I might do this with one blind.

I have chosen a ££££ fabric for my roman blinds in there but this roller blind idea is genius!

I can get one made in a plain coordinating fabric for about £100 (as opposed to ten times that for curtains).

Thanks very much!

Have you looked at perfect fit blinds. They can attach to doors and are sort of integrated to a frame iyswim.
Can't find a pic but a quick google of Hilary's might glean some pics.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 12:21

Thanks sultana, I don’t want anything Venetian style or anything that blocks the windows when not in use as the doors look into my garden and I like the view.

Ah yes. I see. Ours look into the garden too and roll up in the frame completely out the way. Hard to describe... still can't find a good pic.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 12:41

Is it this type?

I had perfect fit blinds on my French doors. Bloody loved those doors!

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 12:50

My windows/doors are made of wood. Perfect fit look like they are for UPVC. I don't mind a roller blind type look but don't want Venetian/concertina.

sultanaloaf · 30/12/2018 13:24

Yes! Those are the ones. They are a great solution for pvc doors as roll up to allow view but integral to door so not in the way when opening.
Not at all sure how it would work on wood....
apologies if I've introduced a red herring.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 13:52

No problem at all sultana Xmas Grin.

The offending doors/window. I still can't decide what would be best. I do this and then end up doing nothing because I can't decide.

I like a voyage fabric for the three roman blinds in the same room with a bit of beige, dark grey and black in it (worktops are dark grey and appliances are black glass).

The room will be painted in Johnstone's helium.

it is just this big door/window that is the problem. After Duck's suggestion I thought of a charcoal linen roller blind that would coordinate and leave the glass completely clear.

Could you have the blind on the door match the others, ie the roman blinds on the other windows or is that too matchy matchy? The only problem I've ever had with roller blinds is that if you bump against them they tend to shoot back up the window. Roman blinds are easier to lock into a particular position.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 17:59

A Roman would be fantastic. I used Brittania Rose for blinds recently and was pleased with them, their max size isn’t big enough for this window. Perhaps I gave up too soon and someone else will make a 7ft x 9ft blind.

How about a beautiful window film? www.blossomandbrush.com/

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 18:13

They are lovely but I want to be able to see the garden. My plan is for a leather armchair, side table, rug and reading lamp in the corner opposite the left hand side of the door. I like to sit there and look at my flowers and watch the birds.

I have just found someone who will make a Roman blind in the fabric I want, my head is 🤯!

Will make them to fit your doors - price depends on type of fabric chosen.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 18:21

Thank you mama. I want this fabric. I have now found this place that will make them. First glance at reviews looks good.

A lot of places seem to have 78 wide and 98 long as a cut off for blinds.

Beautiful fabric. Glad you got it sorted.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 21:18

Thank you, you made me keep looking! I had given up on finding someone to make one big enough hence my OP.
