What would you do with this bathroom?

Old house, moved in 6months ago
It's been painted. You can't see but they are beautiful patterned windows.

I'd planned to change out the basin unit and put in an open shower, keeping the bath and the floor.
But now I'm wondering if I shouldn't change it all, I'd never have chosen the floor or the bath, but it's quite classic and eye catching

I live the floor but would maybe change bath for a more classic roll top?

Also a big plant, that space is calling for one!

pepperjack · 19/12/2018 08:34

Good idea for a plant, thanks!

We actually never use the bath, so I'm a bit loathe to spend any money on it!

I would keep the shower contained as I really don’t get the ‘wet room’ love. A bug plant as someone else said would look great and I would need a small table or something by the bath to put a drink or book etc on. Some colourful mats and maybe a bright picture on the wall. It’s a striking bathroom and I think it’s worth keeping.

You're just showing off with your big arse bathroom aren't you really? Grin

It's fine, a big plant would look lovely in there definitely.

Its a great room with the walls, windows and tiles! But I'm not a fan if most of the rest. The bath looks odd on the middle, its not the right setting for that placement. Can you peak under to see if the floor's been tiled? If so I'd scootch it out of the way. I don't like the toilet, and there's no need for the corner style (for small wc's) and back panel. If you opt for a walk in shower you may be in for a headache if you want to keep the tiles, the flooring as is might not be up to the task. Love the room though!

pepperjack · 19/12/2018 10:11

Yes dudsville, I'm with you. It's a big space and I wouldn't have put anything where it is. The toilet all the way in that corner just makes me laugh.

I was going to do this kind of shower, so still contained

Can't post photos now.

I know it's big gamerchick, but cos it's not to my taste I can't work out whether it's classic or ott!

I have some extra tiles that could be retiled around the shower floor and I'd retile the inside of the shower just white.

Maybe I'll just make the smaller changes for now and when the floor needs replacing I'll change the layout.

I've just had kitchen refurb and they're just finishing en-suite, not sure I can do another big job!

I'd have to change the floor as I find chequerboard floors a bit migraine inducing! And I'd add in a bigger, open shower area with lighter shower tiles

Snowglobes · 20/12/2018 07:38

If you can afford it & are goungbto be there a long time I’d change it as per your photos - a big room bathroom like that could be absolutely stunning. If this isn’t your taste change it. The positioning wouldn’t work for me and the floors too busy. The Crittal style shower in your photo would look stunning as would the bath. Look on Pinterest and Houzz and go to a few bathroom stores for layout inspiration too. I like a loo hidden behind the door so it’s not the first thing you see, the bath under a window but I’m not sure of where you enter yours and the layout now.

Ohyesiam · 20/12/2018 07:45

I’m quite a fan of mixing styles, but the Victorian flooring doesn’t go with the shade of wood you have( to my mind) or the corner toilet.
Love the shower in the following pic.
I think the door is behind you in the picture? I’d have the loo as less of a focal point, and soften the whole thing up with ferny plants.

FritzyMousey · 20/12/2018 08:46

It’s a lovely big room, the loo in the corner is atrocious though! If you have to keep it in that corner at least set it straight against either wall, a victorian loo with a raised cistern would look better and perhaps a pony wall to hide it a bit if the bath can move.

pepperjack · 20/12/2018 09:35

Yesiam- yes, that wood is all wrong- swapping out that basin unit for this

This is the before estate agents photo

So in a perfect world I think I'd have the bath at the end, centred under the window, like the nice bath photo.
Shower is good where it is.
Then toilet and bath unit and radiator on the sides- can't figure out the best spot for them

It's a beautiful room. But I think it's confused in terms of style and colours. A black and white or grey and white floor would look better with the wall colour. Also the corner loo is too modern I think. You can get a pretty cheap traditional roll top bath from Victorian plumbing and the quality is fine (I used to work for the manufacturer) ou can even get a back to wall version with a straight edge.I would honestly go more traditional in there personally.
