Tiled hallway or laminate flooring

Hi

I’m trying to decide on weather the hallway should be tiled or laminate.

My preference is for tiles as it will be easier to clean and more hard wearing but the issue is it will be cold in winter. It will be a continuation of the tiling I choose for the kitchen/diner.

Laminate on the other hand looks more homely and although still cold in winter I’m sure it will be nicer to the feet and to the kids. But I find it harder to maintain as you shouldn’t wet mop.

What are people’s views

I've had both , they were about the same as far as warmth underfoot but the wood looked warmer ,tiles easier to actually mop ( or steam mop ) but wood looked much nicer when cleaned , I used to either sweep or hoover wood and just clean it with floor cloths ( pre made in pack ) as I needed to
Currently got engineered oak all ground floor and I sweep then use floor cloths every other day - no pets or kids

Have you thought about a vinyl? It’s not like the lino’s of the 80’s (honest!). We had a Karndean/Amtico type hall and kitchen floor in a whitewashed wood effect. It looked really convincing, was warm and easy to clean.

If it's hallway, and you potentially have people coming inside with wet shoes, don't you worry about the potential for slipping over on laminate floor? Rough tile or good quality lino will probably stay nicer for longer, too.

Have an inset coconut mat where you come into the halkway that people have to step in and you will find it stays much cleaner. It will be cheaper too.

Yes I second on a mat at the entrance ! I've used mud grabber mats that either hose off when filthy or hover to tidy , a better quality one is better value as they do clean up like new , they really save on the floor cleaning and choose one with a rubber under that doesn't slide around

No I’ll be honest I wouldn’t care for people slipping. I have a no shoe rule and rude inlaws (who drop by without notice and frequently) who decide to wear shoes in my house but request shoes of in their own.
So without sounding too mean I hope they learn the no shoe rule

But I’ve had laminate for years and no one has slipped
I would’ve thought they’d slip on tiles

I’ll have those thick mats to soak up mud and water though

I’m considering underfloorg and matte tiles

Gloss tiles are prettier but I’m too lazy to buff constantly

I've just had Lino in my hall and it's lovely and looks like real tiles! I will go and take a pic op.

Luxury vinyl tile - looks like wood effect laminate but is more hardwesring and waterproof
