Im currently decorating my mother in laws holiday cottage.
Well totally overhauling to be honest
Im at the point of painting some skirting boards. I was recommended Dulux satinwood, as a 2 coat, no undercoat, solution
Ive painted them but there was a stain on the wood previously - it wasnt varnished, just a sort of stained pine - and it has reacted with the paint and they have gone a lovely shade of nicotine yellow.
I have a couple of options
Downstai=rs in the kitchen I painted the same sort of skirting board with Zinsser Permawhite in Satin. This just went straight on and with 3 coats looked great. But I know this is for high humidity areas, and I dont have lots of it left and was planning on using it in the 2 bathrooms for a small amount of wood in there. I could see if it just goes over where the satinwood went and do that.
Secondly I could pretend that this awful layer has never been done and get some zinsser BIN - I suspect I will need some anyway as there is varnish on the wood on the stairs and I need to paint all that. Does satinwood work over that? And would I still need the 2 coats, or would the zinsser count as undercoat 1?
It would be a paint to just lose the satinwood as money is tight. Im erring towards the BIN, especially as there is varnish to go over
