Interlined curtains

Hi

We are considering moving into a new build home so will need to put in new curtains/blinds throughout. I'm using some online curtain-making sites to try and get an idea of what this would cost. It seems that interlining can add about 25-30% to the cost of the curtains and I am trying to work out whether this is worth doing.

The house will be triple glazed so insulation isn't likely to be an issue. However, it is a high spec house and I don't want to ruin the look by skimping unnecessarily. I don't mind paying for interlining if it will make a real difference but would be interested in views on how much difference interlining makes from a purely aesthetic perspective.

Thanks!

Interlining will make them hang better, it adds a lot to the weight so that is why. A cheaper fabric with lining and interlining will look better than a more expensive fabric with just lining. Go for the most fullness you can as well, depending on the heading.

Thanks Fritzy. What do you mean by going for the most fullness? I'm thinking of eyelet headers.

Interlining adds opulence to the hang and the look. For me, fullness has to be curtain width (flat before pleating/gathering) at least 2.5 times the width of the track / pole.

For me, eyelet heading cheapens the look and I would avoid it if you want the "high end " quality look.
It may work in a casual situation.

Thanks everyone. It's a good point about eyelet curtains. May be one of things better not to skimp on. Maybe it's a question of doing it gradually rather than spending loads of money all at once. Think we are looking at moving in summer so bedroom curtains are probably the priority.

All of our downstairs curtains are interlined. They hang so much better. And it also means you can get away with two widths of fabric per curtain which can be more cost effective if you're using expensive fabric.
