Please recommend me a paint colour for my Edwardian hallway

I am struggling- it hasn't been painted for 30 years, and I don't want to get it wrong.
I like neutrals, and I am thinking of a darker colour below the dado rail. It has a tiled floor downstairs, but the colours are too dark to match- dark taupe, deep red, blue and a dark ochre.I usually use Farrow and Ball. The woodwork will be white- there is quite a lot of panelling.

perhaps a blue like this one? www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-durable-matt-emulsion-paint-dark-duck-egg-25l/p/0412464

Thank you. That would be good for below the dado, but I don't want the overall look to be too blue.

Has anyone used Shadow White or Shaded White Farrow and Ball? They both look like good colours for a hallway- maybe Shaded?

Shaded White is one of my favourite F&B colours, used it in my last house in the hall (& most of rest of house). Neutral but not boring, not too grey, not too yellow. Lovely

lazysummer · 10/10/2018 21:53

Thank you. I will try a tester tomorrow.

I also think I will go uniform above and below the dado- too many decisions otherwise!

Edwardians went in for lots of pale yellows and pale pinks as a reaction against Victorian colours, if that's of interest. Love shaded white.

lazysummer · 11/10/2018 22:44

Thank you. Good advice.

Also look at the new F and B school house white.

lazysummer · 12/10/2018 18:46

I looked at school house white and wondered if it was too pale. I will try a tester.
I have a tester of shaded white too.
Thanks.

So I am thinking now of shadow white above the dado and shaded white below. Any opinions welcomed. I also need white for the woodwork- there is a section of panelling as well as dado and picture rail. I don't want anything fancy, but brilliant white will be too much. Any suggestions of less stark white satin?

I used Wimborne White with Shaded White - both F&B eggshell and Johnstone's copy.

I've just done a Victorian hallway in shadow white - love it, very versatile. Grey ish off white but warm.

I've gone for F&B Oval Room Blue - it's a gorgeous colour

AesopsMables · 17/10/2018 20:50

We have Ammonite with pale blue and cream Victorian floor tiles
Looks bright and modern but suits the house still

lazysummer · 17/10/2018 21:07

I am now torn between shadow and shaded white. The hallway pics look very impressive. Is it Farrow and Ball or the Johnstone's copy?

I think I am going shadow white, as it looks gorgeous. What woodwork colour is in the pics?

That shadow white looks similar to the Little Green "Rolling Fog - Pale" that we're doing our dining room in. We've nicknamed it dark white (when we're not referring to it as rolling fag).

egdehsdrawkcab · 18/10/2018 14:27

Thanks, I'm really loving the colour, far more than the slipper satin than we used in some bedrooms. I think shadow white is super versatile.

The woodwork is Wimborne white. Both copies from Johnstones. I've used real F& before and this went on much better and isn't flaking off!

MissSueFlay · 18/10/2018 14:34

We recently did our hallway (Edwardian terrace) - our floor tiles are black and white like @egdehsdrawkcab's. We went for Dulux Heritage - Rosemary Leaf below the dado (it's a sort of dusty, mossy green) and Silver Fern above (a green-tint white). The painter said it all looked 'very English'! Our woodwork was a creamy off-white, everything as flat matt as we could get. It looks light and traditional, but with colour. It had been an oppressive magnolia before.

lazysummer · 18/10/2018 20:42

Thanks for all of the input. I have also seen really dark colours used below the dado, and wondering whether that would work with shadow white. Maybe Hague blue, as the tiles have some blue in (not Hague though).

I have just done my Edwardian Hall in Shadow White. The woodwork is Wimborne White.

I love it.

Thanks- looks great. We are going ahead with Shadow White and Winmborne White. The latest decisions are- modern or estate eggshell for the woodwork. We have begun with estate eggshell, but still need to decide final coat. Also, below the dado, we are undecided- Shadow White or a contrast. Has anyone gone very dark below dado? Loveka, is yours Shadow White below? It's hard to see, due to the change in texture. Pics or advice are welcome!
