Wall colour with chocolate sofa?

I've got 2 chocolate brown leather sofas in my sitting room. I can't afford to change them as we're planning to move soon but do want to redecorate. 3 walls are fine, painted in F&B pointing but we've got a plum/purple wall which looks really awful now as it's not been painted for years.
I'd like to keep one wall a different colour, it's the wall with the fireplace and old timber mantelpiece. Either side of the fire is a white wall radiator, so I need a colour behind them or they sort of blend in too much. I have oak floors with a cream rug and some dark gold curtains I can use.
I was wondering about a pale greeny-blue? If I go pale should I paint the whole room? Or should I be bolder and go darker? Does a purple eg F&B brassica actually go with brown?? It's a north facing room so need to be a bit careful, but is the sitting room we use in the winter with the log burner so a cosy room too.
Any ideas out there?

I would go with the green-blue. Consider F&B Green Blue. Also look at Card Room green. It may surprise you.

I meant Breakfast Room Green. Card Room looks very green-grey. Sorry, all these colours sound the same.

We used to have a burnt orange accent wall in our living room with a chocolate brown sofa. Sounds awful, looked fab 😂

Brilliant thanks I'll look at those

I have F&B Vert de Terre (a beautiful relaxing green) in my NE facing sitting room. It's a beautiful colour. I'm really glad to have embraced green after years of painting the room wishy washy creams and off-whites trying to lighten it (and failing)!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 14/09/2018 18:44

Oh, I have a brown leather armchair btw and the colours compliment each other.

cashmerecardigans · 14/09/2018 18:49

Thanks, I'm loving the green blue and the vert de terre. I had been looking at Teresa Green but think I prefer the depth of green blue. Good to hear the colours work together, I went back to basics and decided that I felt green and brown worked for trees it should be fine Smile.
I'm now wondering how bold to be - one wall or whole room?

I have a brown chesterfield sofa and we just painted our walls in F&B pigeon. I love it Smile

Go for it. I personally don't like "feature walls" because it always looks incomplete.

cashmerecardigans · 14/09/2018 22:43

I think I will. Rest of house is beautifully neutral. I'm fed up of it, especially as we put house on the market and no one bought it! We're holding off on putting it back on so I think I'll do it how we want it and enjoy it for now.

Green blue is a beautiful colour with warmth and lightness while being solid, if you know what I mean, and the colour changes according to light in a way that I used to sometimes just sit and stare at it admiringly...

We have a chocolate brown leather sofa and painted walls in F&B Sudbury Yellow. I generally do not like yellow but this is a lovely rich mustardy colour and looks fab. We used Pointing for ceiling and woodwork. North facing rooms can be tricky and blues and greens are often said to be best avoided because it is the first colour to fade in low light. I have previously painted a north facing dining room in terracotta and it looked great.

Sedate gray wall color would be best compliment with a chocolate brown sofa.

I'd Devon's a warm gold colour. A few years ago I had chestnut brown sofas and a soft gold on the walls with burnt orange accents. Then I changed the accents to moss green which looked nice as well. I used Egyptian Sand, Crown I think. Mustard would be nice also.

Duck egg looks nice with brown as well or an eau de nil.

slinkysaluki · 17/09/2018 09:26

Devon = second 🙄

Very belated update. I've just painted the whole room in the F&B green blue. It's absolutely beautiful and I just love it so much. A huge thank you to Mary and Twillow for suggesting it. It's just completely calmed the room down and is so soothing.
Currently sitting in there with my Christmas lights on the mantelpiece, the log burner going and the dog next to me on the sofa. Bliss

That looks beautiful op. I love here by blue with brownish shades. We have skimming stone in our lounge with taupe coloured sofas and duck egg blue accents.

Bluesheep8 · 23/12/2018 15:46

That was meant to say greeny not here by!
