Kitchen cupboards.....light or darker?

First totally new kitchen in 25 years so want to get it right. Will we regret darker cupboard doors? What colour are yours and do you like them?

At present we have cream cupboards and have gradually replaced bits to end up with a pale work surface, white sink and white walls. I have finally admitted that I am either afraid of colour or an incurable minimalist.

My husband, who normally goes along with anything I say, has shown a strong presence for mid grey/blue/green cupboards. If we choose these, at least we can definitely choose whitish paint and pale work surface. But will the cupboards be too dark and dominate the room?

We've recently had a duck egg blue kitchen installed. We also had a black worktop and wooden floor put in so I was conscious that the walls and tiles would near to be light to balance it out.

I'd go for the colour/style of cupboards you like the best and then you can lighten the room in other areas if needed.

Pic attached of our duck egg kitchen. Until we painted the walls this light blue they were a chocolate brown and I was worried it was going to be too dark. The right paint made all the difference.

Just realised that's a terrible photo as dull and dingy here today but it is very light in real life!

I would say lighter.
I was about to have light cupboards but on the last minute changed my mind.
I've regretted it for the last 5 years.
It takes a bright day to make the kitchen look light otherwise it loooks dull.
I have thought the same when I have been to friends who have also chosen dark units. They have regretted it as well.

We’ve just had light grey units fitted - previously they were a light wood. The difference Ito the light in the room is amazing. So much brighter and fresher. So glad we didn’t go for anything darker

Thanks....still undecided!

I think it depends on your kitchen - size, window(s) location and size, whether you are having wall cupboards, etc.

Also what colour worktops, walls, tiles, etc can make a big difference to how light or dark the kitchen will feel.
