Sheets that can be washed at 60 degrees

DS has recently been diagnosed with dust mite allergies so I'm on the hunt for sheets that can be washed at 60 degrees. I ordered some on MnS.. 100% Egyptian cotton and online it only said machine washable and nothing about temperature. Turns out they can only be washed at 40 degrees! Angry So they will be going back.

I know it would be easier to go and have a look in the shops, but I never find the time.. Most of my shopping is done online.

Long story short... Can someone please recommended a brand that is soft and can be washed at 60 degrees amd doesn't break the bank Smile

All my bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton and I've always washed it at 60. Ive never looked at a label.

30°!! Shock

Nothing bad has happened and it's all over 2 years old.

Outlookmainlyfair · 10/09/2018 19:05

I have never even looked, always wash my 100% cotton sheets at 60’ or above.

AgentProvocateur · 10/09/2018 19:06

You can wash cotton at 60. I never look at the labels. It probably says 40 for environmental reasons.

Roselind · 10/09/2018 19:09

I have washed all sheets at 60 for years (DS had allergies). Never even look at the labels. None have ever shrunk; maybe if they are brightly coloured the dye fades more quickly but I doubt it.
DH once inadvertently set the machine for 90 - sheets were fine but the front of the washing machine melted......

ChocolateWombat · 10/09/2018 19:11

100% cotton sheets can definitely be washed at 60.

Don't worry about hunting around, just believe that if they are 100% cotton it will be fine.

HirplesWithHaggis · 10/09/2018 19:11

Agreeing with everyone else, you can wash those at 60. I've done them at 95, they come out a bit crinkled but not shrunk etc.

Fairylea · 10/09/2018 19:11

I buy cheap and cheerful bedsets from George at Asda online as I love their designs - some are 100% cotton, most half and half and I always wash at 60 - no issues at all.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 10/09/2018 19:12

Would never wash sheets or towels at less than 60.

BIWI · 10/09/2018 19:14

If they're cotton they can be washed at a higher temperature than 60 degree as well, surely?

wrimad · 10/09/2018 19:18

Sheets and towels I always wash at at least 60 - often higher. Labels usually say 40 max but it’s always been fine

zen1 · 10/09/2018 19:21

I wash all bedding at 60° even though the labels say 40. The DCs have a lot of fitted cheap stretch towelling sheets and they’ve always been fine at 60.

WildCherryBlossom · 10/09/2018 19:24

As everyone else says - all sheets have always been fine at 60. I have often boil washed children's sheets after bed wetting incidents / vomiting episodes etc as the pee smell can be difficult to get rid off. (The mattress protectors don't like to be boil washed though - have shrunk a few of those when checking pissy or sick stained bedding in the machine in the middle of the night)

ChocolateWombat · 10/09/2018 19:31

You can get 100% cotton mattress protectors - hard to get hold of ones with a cotton wadding and skirt, as well as sheet itself though. If you can get those, 60 would be fine, but not a boil wash as people report the skirts shrink. John Lewis and Soak and Sleep (online) do them.

DramaAlpaca · 10/09/2018 19:34

I wash all bedding at 60, always have.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 10/09/2018 19:39

I wash all my bedding & towels at 90.

In my defence, I don't tumble dry them, so hopefully that negates some of the environmental impact.

SoyDora · 10/09/2018 19:41

Always wash my M&S Egyptian cotton sheets at 60!

London28 · 10/09/2018 19:44

As with pp's I wash all of our cotton bedding at 60° it says 40° on care label, but I would never wash bedding on anything less than 60°

margotsdevil · 10/09/2018 19:52

My bedding is all from Dunelm and I wash it all at 60. Not sure I ever looked at the label...

MumNeedsTea · 10/09/2018 19:55

Ahh... It's unanimous then! I can ignore the labels :)
I've always washed all bedding at 60, but coincidently all our current bedding came with a label of 60. I needed new sheets for DS and hence the dilemma.
It's a good thing I didn't return those MnS sheets :)

All our bedding goes in at 60, all the towels at 90. Every so often I give the bedding a 90 degree wash, particularly when DS was younger and had sickness or wet the bed etc., Never had a shrunk sheet.

LetsDIY · 10/09/2018 21:26

You can boil-wash cotton.

I've used 95C on my cotton sheets.

Weekly wash is always 60C.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 10/09/2018 21:37

I buy cheap, 100% cotton sheets from ikea.

I boil wash then at 90 and have done for years. Still in great nick 😎

Cumberlover76 · 10/09/2018 21:41

Not about sheets, but I've just ordered a wool mattress topper and pillows and they are apparantly naturally resistant to dust mites so might help you. I've not tried them out yet but have read good thing's.

TheHollowLeggedGoat · 10/09/2018 21:44

The only thing that might suffer with regular high temperature washes is the elastic corners on fitted sheets. But it doesn't stop me. Always 60 for bedding and towels. Providing its 100% cotton, it'll be fine. Polycotton might bobble.

lashy · 11/09/2018 23:17

I have Bedeck white cotton sheets and they get a 90 degree wash. As they're 100% cotton I never even bothered to check the care label (I've been hot-washing white cotton sheets for years now so didn't think about it). No problems to report.
