DEcorator due to come very soon to decorate DS1 bedroom. He is mid twenties and 'doesn't mind' ! He lives in flat with high ceilings, neutral carpet and bedroom has minimal decorative features. Room reasonable size but quite dark as north facing.
Currently has a dark red feature wall which looks a bit old hat now although it was smart 10 years ago!!. I am not keen on feature walls and as room rather featureless feel that a definite colour might help.
I say f&b as I have colourcards and v little time. Any thoughts?

Hi, hopefully I can help you. I have the f&b colour card in front of me. Green Smoke is very on trend, it’s quite dark but would really suit a young guy’s bedroom. You could be really clever with the colour and use colour blocking. I’ve used colour blocking on several projects and it’s worked really well to get the right balance of colour and an airy feel. I painted 2/3 up from the floor in my chosen colour, then the top 1/3 and the ceiling were painted white. If I was doing this in an older property, say Georgian with larger room proportions I would paint 3/4 from the floor or up to the picture rail.

If you’re on Instagram have a look at my feed and stories (Harry’s bedroom) @mumdoesdesign You’ll see a few examples of colour blocking or head to www.mumdoesdesign.com

Let me know if this helps?

Lisa x

Thankyou Lisa, that looks lovely and I think it would be cosier without sucking all the light out. It's a Victorian flat with high ceilings , double bedroom.
Would a trade type white work agar that green? There is quite a lot of woodwork, skirtings etc.

Green smoke is lovely, also maybe oval room blue? I find it has a green undertone and I love the way it changes colour in different lights. Love your ig feed by the way Lisa!

Ah, so painting part way up the wall is the new feature wall? Useful to know!
(Just followed you on IG, you’ve painted your house similar colours to mine 🙂)

I think it's quite useful actually - allows you to use good strong colours without overwhelming a room. My eldest DS wants a midnight blue room and I'm thinking this could be a solution.

My sons bedroom is Joa's white (www.farrow-ball.com/joa's%20white/paint-colours/farrow-ball/fcp-product/100226) and
Stiffley blue in the alcoves (www.farrow-ball.com/stiffkey-blue/colours/farrow-ball/fcp-product/100281). The ceiling, cornice and woodwork are painted in paler complementary colours.

He really likes it. He is 20.

Hello, yes a trade white would work perfectly with the FB Green Smoke. In a Victorian double room I would paint 2/3 up to get the proportions right. I’d advise you to measure and tape where the divide line will be, stand back and see what you think. I used the yellow low tack Frog Tape, it doesn’t pull off the paint! A lesson I learnt the hard way.

Thank you for the Insta follows ladies. Glad you liked my feed x x
