Wall colours for a shared boy and girl sibling bedroom?

Hi all,

The kids want to move into a bedroom together which I think is really sweet (DS age 6, DD age 2), but I'm struggling with wall colours that are gender neutral and please both children!

Mint green was my initial thought, but the rest of the house has quite a muted colour palette, (greige carpet, blue/grey, grey/green, and warm white walls and neutral curtains), so I'm worried it'll be too luminescent!

Their bedroom is the one straight in front of the stairs so we will see whatever colour it ends up being, every time we come up the stairs...

Thanks in advance!

the other thing to remember is that with the ages they are now the chances are you will repaint in the not too distant future anyway so if it looks a bit mad for a couple of years it probably doesn't matter as long as they are happy. We used those peel off wall stickers in our girls' room when they shared.

We had this with our boy/ girl twins. We had a cream/ v pale yellow on the back wall at the head of the beds, then they each chose the colour of 'their' side wall. Then we chose curtains which pick up all 3 colours and it was fine.

If you're worried his friends will tease him for having a pink or purple wall, do you not think they'll do similar for having dolls and other "baby" toys in there.
Tbh if he's having mates over to play in his room I'd be inclined to leave them in separate rooms but maybe get a trundle bed in sons for sleepovers and sister can sleep over nine school nights

My two share and are a similar age to yours too and their room is red and grey.

We went for pale blue like a background of sky. We added clouds, rainbow and hot air balloons for gender neutral, but if you wanted to add girliness you could do the butterfly/flowers /unicorn thing on Dad's side.

Hi everyone,

I got our vast array of tester pots out (didn't realise we had so many!) and tried a lot of colours including most of the ideas you all gave, thank you. I toyed with the idea again of having different coloured walls as some of the colour combos you all suggested sounded lovely, but I can't imagine the kids will keep their beds in the same place for very long, so it's not practical at the moment. It's not a massive room either, so I don't want to make it too 'loud'.

After lots of painting up bits of card and standing staring at different times of day yesterday, the upshot is that everyone is happy with the idea of a warm very pale blue, and that will go with both of the DC's bed linen and accessories which is fortunate!

I really like the idea of some removable wall stickers, thinking that they'll be easier to remove if the kids change places, than having to re-paint walls...

Thanks everyone

Farrow and Ball borrowed light is a warm pale blue.
