Complete home makeover - is there such a thing in the South East?

Hello wise MNers...

I have recently come into a bit of money - not enough to move, but enough to do some home improvements which are desperately needed. We are 2 adults and 3 children (9yo, 11yo and 17yo) in a VERY small 2-bed-and-a-box-room house, with a living room, kitchen, conservatory, family bathroom, ensuite, & downstairs WC. The carpets are threadbare, the furniture is a mix of IKEA and antique (inherited from GM but enormous and totally out of place) and the whole house is full of clutter.. I have been so ashamed of the state of it that I haven't entertained in years - but I'm finally able to do something about it so am looking for professional advice.

Is there such a thing as a company that will come in, help you declutter, and then completely redo an entire house? It needs new flooring throughout, painting, wallpaper, built in cupboards, a new kitchen, updating the bathrooms and the kids could do with a redesign of their rooms now they're older. 17yo DSD still has nursery wallpaper in his bedroom! If budget allows, I'd love a complete furniture overhaul as well, especially in the living room, which looks so cramped and tired.

Does this sound possible? And if so, what sort of figure would you expect to pay for this? I know it's a monumental ask without looking at the actual house but it is too big a job for me to do on my own, so I'd rather get it done properly. Can you recommend anyone in the SE just outside London?

Thank you so much...

There are decluttering companies but I have no idea how much they cost. Maybe declutter then get an interior designer.

That all sounds very expensive - are you sure you can't move instead?!?!

Maybe have an architect come in to look at extending or going into loft/cellar? They are v clever about using corners etc that normal people cant see. Depends on your budget but would make more of a difference and add value.

Thanks for your replies - fusion definitely can’t move, my house value plus the inheritance is not enough to justify the cost of moving up the ladder. DSS is off to uni soon so it’s not long till we’re down to 4 people anyway! (Although we will still keep a bed for him, of course!
Loft is already boarded and full of stored things, basement could be an option so thank you for that suggestion. I’m more after making the space we currently have more beautiful, and practical, than doing a major extension but it’s all worth thinking about.

Hi, might be better to get separate people for the tasks, a declutter person, interior designer who will have contacts where to source furnishings/furniture & decorators, maybe ask around on local forums for recommendations etc, or give a vague idea on here whereabouts you are & posters might be able to give recommendations.

www.all-organised.co.uk/our-services

I’ve used this company previously and they were very good. They declutter, and they can put you in touch with people who can carry out any work needing done.

I'd break it down into a budget per room if I were you. It's so easy to get carried away.

We moved into our house a year ago and have been quite shocked at how much it has cost to do the same type of improvements you mention. So as pps have said, getting someone to do this for you is going to be expensive.

We’ve already spent 30k and have only finished 1 bathroom, the lounge and 3 bedrooms. Decorating, new flooring, furniture etc. Is that the kayak nd of money you were thinking of?
